I still dont understand what Mac users are missing that PC users get from panasonic
Reliable tools. A P2 Store where all the volumes always mount. The ability to format cards from your computer. The ability to transfer clips from a card to the computer flawlessly. The ability to install and run firmware updates. The P2 Viewer program.

Those are the things I can think of off the top of my head.

Never found myself needing them so maybe thats why i couldnt think of any. Dont have need for a P2 Store so wouldnt be able to test it. Using the adapter i can format my cards. Ive transfered plenty of cards directly from the card into FCP and that didnt have a problem, EVER. Firmware updates arent something you need to do in the field so getting that done is easily planned by grabbing a PC laptop or booting into windows on the mac.

I don't care for Macs, but I could certainly understand that not everyone that uses a Mac has access to a PC laptop or Windows loaded on a Mac.

Personally, I don't get why Panasonic doesn't make their tools more format neutral.

For example, P2 cards and the P2 store could just connect as USB Universal Mass Storage Devices. That specification works under Windows MacOS and Linux without the need to even install special drivers. That would eliminate the headache of the offloading issue.

As for firmware updates, why not just make it such that you load a firmware file onto the P2 card (using the solution described above), and the HVX itself actually installs it once you put the P2 card back into the camera? Again, this would work on any platform.

Have you tried the p2 Viewer on a PC? I'm very surprised that there isn't one for Mac, even if you'd be hard-pressed to FIND a Mac (laptop/desktop) with a PCMCIA slot in it. It's a very useful application.

Here is a nice little POLL for an informal count; and please everyone, we know that PC is better than MAC and that MAC is all hype and image, so no flame wars.

QFT .

Mac - closed market (only apple parts used)
PC - open market - tons of vendors make tons of hardware to run the tons of software written for it.

The PC is more like an open market in competition/design/upgradeability/features/3rd party hardware providers....

The MacOS is pretty nice, but I'd rather have the flexibility to tweak my electronic equipment in any way I'd like, and have tons of choices of vendors to choose from when I do.

MAC = overpriced and pompous!!

I will give them the benefit of having one company make all of your stuff, its pretty compatible all around. There won't be as much fiddleing with hardware to get it to work as it should...

but I like FIDDLING!
