PERA Trade Show Vancouver

Hey all,

I went to the PERA trade show yesterday and it was really cool, had all the big bad boy film cameras from Panavision and Arri, including the new Panavision Genesis! It was a sweet machine. They did comparison tests between 35mm and the Genesis and they looked pretty much the same except for a few small minor differences.

I also talked to the Panasonic reps about the new DVX HD version coming out and they said what we have all been already talking about: P2 Technology, 16:9, 24p, and under $10,000 USD. They didn't have any other information yet except that it will be at NAB this year.

Cheers,

Norm

Where can I find out about cool trade shows like that? I live in Portland Oregon, do you know of any that come my way? (other than NAB)

I just went to Panavision's site and look at the pdf spec sheet on the Genesis Cam. Wow...that thing looks pretty badass!! Wonder how much it'll cost? ~reservoir~

Re: PERA Trade Show Vancouver

reservoir,

Panavision historically only builds equipment to rent and never sells it. Because they don't sell it and make it themselves the actual cost is not a major issue for them. I would bet that the camera will cost them more than $250 K each to build-- but that is an educated guess. I haven't checked the rental rate but it will probably be $2000/day or so.
