Hi all,

Just want to showcase the new music video for "The Devil’s Hand" by the german band Pentatones. It's my bachelors thesis in Media Arts & Design for the cinematography & post production. We shot on the Red One in 4 days and all the sets are handmade. Post took approx 4 months and was done in Realflow, Blender, 3ds Max and Scratch for the grading.
Would love to hear what you guys think.

Best,
Dietmar

This is fantastic film making. Set design, costumes, all the technicals.

I don't like the subject matter for the song but it sure made for an awesome premise. Is the girl the real singer?

I'd like to know your thoughts on shooting with the bird. Was there any green screen involved?
How did you get the dolly shots with the frozen frames? Actors just hold still?

Absolute top notch. One of the better technical works on the forums and an A-list effort. My fav was the art direction.

Yes, she is. Check out http://www.pentatones.de.

In fact, there was no green screen used at all (except the profile elevator shots through the lattice).
We were lucky enough, that the sky was pretty blue and we could use that for keying (all the clouds and the gravel mountains are inserted).
This did not work all the time, so we had to do some painful rotoscoping. The bird in the freeze-moment is simply a still photo (which we photographed in front of green),
which was bended afterwards.

You got it, basically. But for example the elevator guy didn't hold that still, so we had to do stabilize the hands with 2d-tracking, frame blending, bg retouching etc.

Absolute top notch. One of the better technical works on the forums and an A-list effort. My fav was the art direction.

Thank you for your comments! Appreciate it...

Best,
Dietmar
