Pelican Case Size?

As far as the Panasonic Log, I thought about not putting it on the case, but then I realized that this case is pretty popluar, I see them coming off the ramp all the time, so I felt it would make your case more recognizeable. It can be locked and frankly if someone is going to steal your case, and it is this big, I really do believe that people will notice that a guy 6'2" was walking away with a Panasonic case.
The logo is subtle, in that it isn't is screaming orage but rahter a dark blue against a dark gray. I think it looks pretty nice for a case logo.

I don't know, Jan... I think I like Mule's solution of replacing the Panny logo with the "live snakes" decal.

Well my thought was if you din't happen to have access to the snakes or if you had a strong aversion to handling them. Or was I just taking his suggestion too literally? ;-)
I have been using these cases for about a month now. I must admit that I have found them much more useful than I initially suspected.
Although they can be quite unwieldy and a little on the heavy side, one can really put a lot of camera-specific items in the case along with the camera. I keep a full set of P2 cards, an AC power supply, batteries, several cords, white balance and focus card, and the tripod adapter.
No doubt I am adding even more weight, but the convenience is worth the extra pounds and the weight is still manageable.
A couple of things I would maybe tweak is that I find the rubber seal often drops out of its channel preventing the lid from closing.
Also, I wish that there were one more slot toward the front of the foam where one could slip the camera owners guide into the case as well.

Rubber seal should not be dropping. Pelican sells replacement seals but it usually takes quite a while before they crack/dry rot . Might the seal be just a little too big or stretched out of orig. shape. ? Check for warranty coverage.

There should be a case finder on the pelican website. Just type in the dimensions of your case and see what it gives you. A lot of this seems to depend on whether you need a "camera only case" or something else.
Hmmm... Both cases are doing it and they are only a month old. My guess is that it may be a design flaw with this particular model.

It's a custom-sized case, but maybe the gasket size is just a little off? Maybe some rubber cement would hold it in.

Do you trust the luggage handeling people with the HPX in this case. In otherword what will happen with the cam if the toss the case around very roughly like they always do with luggage???? Will the cam survive? If they drop the case from 4 feet will the cam inside survive?????
Normal airline abuse should not harm the gear. 4 feet onto concrete... not sure. That would be a hell of a thump in any case.
In my opinion, you won't find a better case for protecting your gear.

Actually, I was quite impressed...
Jan had been following this thread, and with no prompting from me (other than what I posted here), Jan contacted me and said that they were going to replace the rubber seal and the foam lid liner for my 2 cases. A couple of days later the new material showed up and all is well.:happy:
We are really fortunate to have an actual Panasonic company rep like Jan that will help us work through some of these issues. Not many big companies provide that kind of access or are willing to take the kind of risk normally associated with forum-level, one-on-one communication.

I've had problems with Pelican seals before. I usually just remove them unless water is really a concern.
I wonder if using FedEx or UPS is more/equal/less safe than the airline "throwers"

Well, I just sent one of my cameras (in the Pelican case) via overnight FedEx to North Carolina and back.
Total weight was 65 pounds and the cost was $210 (US) one way.
The case doesn't look like new anymore, but it help up like a tank. I simply zip-tied the case closed and sent it off.

I have a question for those of you flying with your HPXs, how are you insured? Isn't it true that if the airline loses or misroutes your case, you are out your HPX? Don't they only cover up to like $300.00 or something?
I have been using UPS. They lost my light kit for a month coming back from Philadelpia to LA. They were going to replace the kit ($4,000.00 for Arri kit and extras) and the day before I was going to fill out the paperwork, they called and said that they found it. At least if FedEx or UPS loses it, they will replace it provided you insured it with them. I am not sure of the limit for FedEx but I know for UPS the limit is U.S. $50,000.00.
I would NEVER fly with a camera like the HPX checked unless it was 100% covered, that's too much money to consider losing.
