Pelican 1510

So I'm ordering my HVX today but the case I ordered from B&H just arrived [the Pelican 1510] - now that I'm seeing this in person I'm having doubts about fitting the HVX into it. I'm not putting anything besides the HVX and batteries/p2 cards into it, but will the camera body itself even fit - and if so what is the recommended way to position it - sitting up or does it need to be lying down? Anyone with this case have photos?

Thanks,
Mark.

Camera will fit easily. I carry it on and fits under seat or overhead. I pack it with
dividers. Camera sits up, NOT on its' side. Lens points upward toward handle.
I have a LOTTA stuff packed in with it. You've got WAY more room to work with.
Handle fits snugly in sitting position. But that's because I have optional mesh
organizer that fits inside top. I recommend mesh organizer if you've got a lot
of little accessories like lens cleaner, filters, etc.

yes, i have the 1510 as well. it easily fit, i put its on its side, and had room for the charger, 2 extra batteries, a place for all the cables, and p2 cards. man i hate that pick n pluck foam though.

i know you said hvx and not dvx, but here is a picture of my dvx100b in my pelican 1510. the dvx is not too much smaller, so at least you have a reference.

dvx100b dimensions: 5-1/2" x 6-5/16" x 14-3/8"
hvx200 dimensions: 6-11/16" x 7-1/8" x 15-3/8"

Well, actually, the DVX is considerably smaller. It's not that much shorter, but's a lot smaller in height and especially width.

We have 2 HVXs and 2 Pelican 1510s. The fit is very nice and I feel very safe with the cameras in the cases the way we have them. I am not worried about the LCD cracking or anything. The fit is very snug where I have pulled the foam out. I made sure of that. Also, the three empy spots are for the charger and 2 batteries. The zipper pouches on top are for everything else including a small screwdriver, knife, component & firewire cables, AC adapter cables, extra mini-dv tapes, 2x p2 cards, multiple SD cards, the remote, and anything else we need in the case at the time. And when I include a shotgun mic in the case, I put it under the camera then put the camera in the case. It really works well for us, and we beat the hell out of our equipment cases!

Sorry about the pic being the wrong angle, I am a retard sometimes:-Dum(DBG):

The 1510 is a pretty decent case. Somewhat small but will hold the HVX and other essentials quite nicely.

I have the hvx, 4 batteries (2 on top of each other), the charger, the remote, and a silicon gel. I still have room for 4 P2 cards and 4DV tapes (2 on top of each other again). It works quite well for the essentials.

little Bobby, How do you protect the HVX from the items in the zipper pouches?

Also, where did you get those zipper pouches, they look quite handy. Though I am a little concerned as you have removed the top protective foam.

Even my lighting guy said the 1510 would be too small. But to me it's perfect. Camera, 3 batteries, charger, cards, a few Mini-DV tapes, a couple cables and of course, Barry's book. :Drogar-Happy(DBG):
I have the camera bottom down when carried by the side 1510 handle and lens up when carried by the top handle.
I almost never use the wheels unless I'm on a perfectly smooth surface and only for a short distance.

Heck, in my BetaCam case, I can't even get the batteries and charger.

This case allowed us to take it carry-on in a recent cross country shoot. 11 Bags for the Beta gear, lights, tripod etc. But the HVX was carry-on. Not bad.

Just dont use the wheels of the 1510....nope!

what's wrong with the wheels? i use them all the time and i've never had a problem. have you? granted, the hvx weighs more than a dvx. maybe that's why?

Wait...why? That.s why I bought it :( What.s wrong with them?

Mark.

Well, the wheels are great..nothing wrong with them..but you might ask your HVX if its ok after you have moved it around a while on wheels...i wouldnt suggest to do this...despite it is a great ground and everything goes smooth..otherwise...dont stress your HVX...!

so how long can you lug that around before it gets too heavy? is it awkward when carrying?

Its definitly not a case to run around with all day..its very safe..mostly i use it for travelling...but to carry it all around its a little heavy...well i did at least for 4 weeks..but wouldnt suggest to do this..!

I wouldn't carry my production trailer all day either!
But it's great to store my gear and get to and from locations. Maybe a bad analogy, but I also have a bag/case for our BetaCam that we carry into locations then remove it to set-up and shoot.
The beauty of the 1510 is it's a smaller case just for the camera and minimal tools.
I don't understand the comment?
