Peaking disappears with movement?

About to pull the trigger on an EVA1, but something disturbed me watching a review. Does the peaking function (normal or squares) stop functioning when you have movement in the frame? The video shows a drinking glass moving within the frame and the peaking disengaging until it came to a stop. Obviously, not having this feature available with actors moving around in frame will make it impossible to adjust focus. Any confirmation on this would be greatly appreciated.

This is something that happens with every camera out there. Peaking finds sharp edges and outlines them. If there's movement, there's likely motion blur in that movement, and so there aren't sharp edges anymore. Once the movement stops, the blur stops, and the peaking shows up on the (now) sharp edges again.

You can adjust the peaking to be more or less sensitive. You can make it very "loose" so it'll still show up under motion, or you can make it extremely "tight" so that it only shows up on items that are ultra-critically focused.

When faced with challenging follow focus tasks (such as trying to chase the fingering hand of a concert violinist in ECU as he plays) I've switched over to using the 'green boxes' focus reference in the viewfinder. It takes a bit of getting used to (so practice!) but it works great for those times when peaking just doesn't do the trick. Having this second focus tool in the EVA1 has really allowed me to nail some shots where peaking wouldn't have cut it.
On the other hand, if you're doing wider shots such as MCU or Medium size, and if the actors aren't moving rapidly, the peaking will probably work just fine for you. I'm thankful whenever there's some fine detail that makes the peaking pop - such as a mustache or curly hair in a close shot (or even some beard stubble), or a pattern in a shirt or jacket in a wider shot. I also keep the peaking level low so that there's a minimal amount in the VF - to keep it from getting too annoying - or giving me a false impression that everything is in focus.

I haven't played with a C100 so I can't compare.
The Panasonic system creates boxes that grow larger to indicate the sharpness of the focus. When people/elements are moving within the frame it can be a very intuitive way to keep track of focus, particularly when you are dealing with shallow DOF and/or things moving rapidly. Obviously a major aspect of following focus is matching the rhythm of your lens adjustments with the rhythm of the movement of your subject within the frame. Because the boxes are changing size depending on the degree of sharpness, they also create a visual rhythm. I have a function button set to alternate between no tool, peaking and the green boxes.
As I mentioned before, you really need to play with it to see what works best for you.

Thanks for the replies guys. So focus squares seem to stay engaged at all times, becoming smaller as an object moves to an out of focus position?

Yes, if that's what you want. You can assign them to a user button so it is easy to toggle them on/off as needed.

Thank you guys. Just ordered one up. Looking forward to my first Panasonic camera sine the DVX100, which I loved.

did you see the current offers with black Friday discount? Just check the big dealers in US! I don't want to drop names as I don't know if it fit in forum rules but it's easy to google...

Adding VAT and the exchange rate into it, it's ~$600 less than what B&H has it for, right now here in the US($6995 counting $350 discount they have). And that's before sales tax here, if your state has it(since B&H has to collect that for a lot of states, now).

I received an email announcement about it from Panasonic B2B solutions (in the USA). The "instant Rebate" deals are listed as being available November 19th - November 30th -- so they should be active currently. (I'm guessing the 'free card(s)' with EVA1 purchase mail-in incentive is also still active as well.)
