Peaking and sharpness HPX301

Hello everybody, I've git problems with the peaking of my HPX 301 'cause as soon as I'm in sunlight, for example, doing a interview under time pressure there is simply no way to see it any more! How do you set your peaking that you can work with it in the best way and how is this 'focus bar' working best? By the way, my back focus was like this as I received my brand new HPX from Pana: http://www.biberfilm.de/server/public/hpx301_sharpness.tga

My peaking setting is actually +5/high and it's okay but as soon as you're shooting in the sunlight there is no way to see it any more. In my opinion even inside its not alway clearly visible but under high light conditions it's just worse. For example in a Sony you set the color to red or blue - in the HPX301 there is no way to change it, right? If I'm using the focus bar I'm not always sure which area is detected as sharp an if it's the right one. Even to realize if it's pervectly sharp or not is, for me, not easy to see just cause there is no end-point for telling me simply 'area sharp'. If I take a little bit of time adjusting and trying out I do mostly reach my wanted sharp area but in the most of the time there is simply no time to 'play with your camera'. So how to find out if (for example) the person four meters away is perfectly sharp in the right area while sunlight is shining and you're under time pressure?

Good question, today i was also playing around with peaking level and frequency. There is not a lot of info in the manual what it actually does and how to judge it. Hope you will get some answers from experienced HPX users.

Hi Maxemanuel,

Same problem here, when there are highlights you lose your peaking. It would be nice to be able to give it color. You can also try setting your viewfinder to black an white.

Hi there,

i use peaking +7 and LOW. Seems that LOW generates better visible lines. I also set the Viewfinder to B/W. I played around and this seems to me like the best visible peaking setting...

Thanks, no i know I'm not alone with this problem :violin:

In the Panasonic Broadcast Blog I wrote my first experience and how happy I am with my HPX301. Soon there was an answer of Jaume Rey but as I wrote about my problems with peaking and the noise, till today there was no more reply! And I'm not the only one who is waiting for an answer to a problem:Drogar-Thinking(DBG People how are fine with the Pana product are getting served all the time. We, with questions an problems are out of service!?

After 10 years of using Sony professional Cameras and Support I'm not used to such things - should I?

Good solution Emmet - what I do too. Peaking just isnt strong enough on this cam - needs to go up to 11! Sony's red tinge is nice desirable too.

Right but if you use 'low' the sharpness area is much bigger than with 'high'. So if you're searching for a perfect focus in a close shot you'll go much better with 'high'. I've chosen high, even if the peaking lines are a bit smaller - they are just more exact.

Yeah, right. I wrote it in the Pana blog a couple of days ago. Jaume said he'll forwarded my comments to their engineers, let's see ;)
