PDW- U1 XDCAM MAC write back finally...

Great timing!

The PDW-700/1s are also starting to ship more in the USA. We have a few coming in next week that are not pre-ordered yet.

I bet Sony did it on purpose, to release the write back functionality of the PDW-U1 with the new availability of the PDW-700s. If Sony would update the USA site to include these new downloads!!!

I am not sure if this has all come too late as an archive media. The drive is around 15x more than a BluRay burner and the media is around 3x the price of BD-R.

If all you are doing is burning and archiving data files from the likes of a EX camera, I'm not sure I see the need for XDCAM media anymore.

Very good news indeed. Forgive my ignorance but can you provide us with a download link for the software? Can't seem to find the 2.9 version...

Bluray and XDCAM are different medias my friend.

BR Discs will degrade quickly over time. Not to mention they're vulnerable to scratches and the sort.

With XDCAM you get a minimum of 1000 ready/write/erase cycles.
They can be played over a million times. And can be used from -22°F to 131°F. They utilize the same blue laser technology of BR-Ds.... but the laser doesn't come into contact with the disk like in a BR drive. Also XDCAM disks have a nice protected casing... something you can easily slap onto a shelf in my opinion. They're like $1/gig too!

Read/write speeds are approximately the same. Although bluray is quickly speeding up! They also have the same file size capacities.

I guess compared to the hassle that LTO Tape Drives are... I'm a XDCAM fan! I don't trust DVDs let alone Bluray disks. I guess in reality it's the same tech... just XDCAM disks have a more robust design.
