As a non techkie i find it brain numbing the specifications stated on Adobe website to run Premiere 2.0. Additionally I have seen that software like Vegas dosen't need half the hardware Premiere does, like capture cards etc. Please can anyone give me their personal experiences with Premiere and if I can buy a simple branded PC like a dell etc that has all the specs to run 2.0 smoothly or If i can do without some of the specs, before I go nuts! i'm only trying to edit DV but it feels like I have to move to silicon valley to do it!

Capture card for premier? I aint got one. I use firewire. And I would rather slide down a razorblade banister neked before getting a dell. Build your own computer cheaper without the useless software they load it down with.

Any new computer, built or bought, will run Premiere just fine, just get plenty of ram, a powerful processor, and a good video card. Any firewire card will capture your video just fine. Premiere can utilize a powerful video card to enhance performance, so that's an option to consider. If you plan on using Magic Bullet, then look into their supported video cards for improved rendering speed. As Kdawg said, build your own box, load Windows XP without all the other crap software, and your computer will run much smoother.
For the record, I have Vegas 7 and Premiere 2. Premiere wins in handling HDV and SD footage, I can scrub an HD timeline with multiple effects added, in Vegas it's slowed down to a crawl. But Vegas has superior exporting and slow motion. I love both programs and use them both often. I wish I could combine them.
