PC hardware for dubbing?

I'm looking for a soundcard or some type of hardware that I can use along ProTools or Cubase to do voice dubbing. Line 6 (http://line6.com/podstudio/) has some cool affordable external (usb) solutions that would allow me to use it on my laptop and on my desktop, but they seem more oriented towards guitar. Did anyone ever use the Studio UX2 for dubbing? Any other similarly priced solutions? Additionally to dubbing I'd like to be able to plug a midi keyboard and a guitar to it, but the main use would be dubbing.

ProTools is hardware proprietary, meaning you have to use their hardware. For a basic system, look at the MBox2 series. Buy the hardware and you get the software included.

Cubase can work with just about anything. The Lexicon Lambda and Omega are affordable ways to get started (avoid the Lexicon Alpha). And Cubase LE comes bundled with many interfaces.

I would suggest that you get an external pre-amp, though, and not rely on the pre-amps in the hardware.

One other note:

ProTools LE will pretty much do what you want. It will allow you to play back a video file, listen to exisiting audio, and record a new track all at the same time, but you will not have SMPTE Time Code or other crucial audio post-production freatures. To get the added post features, you'll have to buy the DVToolKit ($1200) for ProTools LE.

Cubase LE is the same way. The only difference is that purchasing the full version of Cubase (about $500) will give you SMPTE display, OMF import, etc.

Personally, I'm partial to ProTools. And, apparently, alliteration. If you simply need to be able to record a new voice track, then bounce it out as an AIFF to bring into Final Cut or AVID, then you'll be fine with the basic LE system.

Not familiar with the Studio UX2, or the other links you provided. I'd suggest that, if Cubase is the way you want to go, you get the Lexicon Omega or look at stuff from M-Audio or PreSonus.

Thanks, I really might go with the Lexicon Omega. I'm reading some really nice reviews about it. Now I just have to give the microphone another thought...
