So after a few years i finally got careless. My Pc has a virus. Trojan maybe, pop-up's galore. No real biggie as i use my pc only for web stuff and my macs for video and etc. But now its getting annoying. Whats funny is, its not the pop up ad's that are bothering me, its the pop-up's from my pc telling me i have a virus thats driving me nuts.
Anyways. Im looking for a free online cleaner that will help me. Cuz i dont want to buy one cuz this aint gonna happen again. so all i need is a one time thing. can anyone help me out?
Thanks!

Try adaware, or you can download a beta version/ trial version of one of the more established antivirus programmes. Kaspersky is good, which is what i'm using now, either that or you could give nod32 a try

you can get a lot of that stuff free at majorgeeks.com I use antivir guard from there. works great and updates itself frequently

I got the worst virus out there- you cant open My Documents, My Computer, Internet Explorer, and any other folder or Windows application.

Best way to clean it all off is just to back up anything that you "need" and just reformat :) Once it gets to a certain point its sometimes best to just start fresh

I wouldn't recommend Adaware at all.

A good way to find out what's busting your PC is to install a firewall. ZoneAlarm is good. What happens is, once you run the firewall, you'll be able to see what processes are attempting to communicate with outside sources from your PC. You note these file-names and types on a piece of paper and then--

use HIJACKTHIS which can be downloaded for free. Google it, I can't remember the name. You Run HiJackThis and you look through every single line that it gives you, searchinig for the fishy sounding ones like: CoolConceptSearchBar ... yeah... Spyware.

Write these down as well. If you are unsure of an item on the list, google it. Most of the time it will tell you if it's a standard Win32/Win process or a possible Trojan or Virus. Here's a neato thing about Adaware: Hijack this recognizes AdAware as Spyware. Search a few forums and you'll be advised not to use it.

Then, you reset in SAFE MODE, find those little buggers and delete them for good. Make sure you empty your trash once you delete them and then do a Windows Reset.

Restart in regular mode, see if they're still around. It actually sounds easier than it is... I've cleaned a lot of computers like that.

I have a theory that many adaware type programs just make you more vulnerable. 2 Reasons: One many people just download the first one they see, which has spyware in it. And, many of these trojans, worms, etc are built to get around these types of popular anti-spyware programs, so they exploit the vulnerabilities in them. *knock on wood*, I don't use that crap, just run the standard firewall, and keep my windows xp up-to-date, and I have not had problems with spyware. Hope it stays that way :)

Exactly. Or learn how to clean Windows manually.

using those other programs just belabor the true solutions. Firewall from now on. Don't ever surf the net without it.

and in the meantime just re-format and start over :) It'll probably take less tiem than trying to find all that crap, and even when you think you are done you probably still aren't. I have spent hours before going through friends registry trying to find every line having to do with some homepage hijack. Just when you think you found them all, you open up i.e. and it loads again, and all those registry entries are back in the regedit again. Just reformat. You can't trust that software to get rid of it completely. Especially ones that the software is currently unaware of or unable to fix.
