PC editing options?

So,

For those of you out @ NAB, what are the PC-based editing options for the new HVX?

I have Avid Studio complete but have not been able to find any info about whether or not Avid will support this in their next release of Avid Studio HD.

Can any other Avid users go over to the Avid booth and ask?

Thanks!

Xpress Pro HD fully supports a P2 workflow. Since Avid announced the HD upgrade for Studio Users I think it's fair to assume that the P2 workflow will be integrated with that upgrade.

Excellent thanks all!

As far as I can tell in all of the Avid information posted on their site Xpress Pro HD only supports P2 in DV25 resolution. At this point if you want to edit in a higher resolution from P2 you will need to use Media Composer Adrenaline.

from avids website.. directly off the link i just posted above. hope this helps.

Avid Xpress Pro HD Product Brief

Tell a better story with Avid Xpress Pro HD:
Better than ever. New features include: native DVCPRO HD and HDV* editing; real-time Avid multicamera editing; 10-bit SD media support; direct ingest of DVCPRO 50 media over 1394; even more film and 24p tools; advanced AVX2 plug-in architecture; and more
Better HD. Native DVCPRO HD and HDV* editing means no time- and disk- consuming transcoding before you can begin working. Just plug in and go. Support for revolutionary Avid DNxHD encoded media ensures that graphics, titles, and composites stay razor-sharp, and lets you share projects with other Avid HD systems without the burden of large disk arrays for 1:1.
Better editing and effects. Real-time, "on-the-fly" multicamera editing. One-Touch and Natural Match automatic color correction. Image stabilization with auto-zoom. Pan and zoom of oversized stills. Script-based editing. Real-time animated alpha channels. AVX 2 plug-in architecture for deep colorspace and advanced keyframing for both native Avid and third-party plug-in effects. MetaSync for advanced metadata management right on the timeline. Only Avid Xpress Pro HD has all this-and much more.
Better format flexibility. Capture and output native DV25, DV50, and DV100 (DVCPRO HD) media. Mix DV , SD , and HD in the same timeline. Take advantage of ultra-efficient HDV*. Enjoy exceptional, high-quality export flexibility to formats such as WMV HD, MPEG-4 AVC (H.264), MPEG 2, and Flash.
Better film and 24p features. With Academy Award® winning Avid Film Composer tools built right in, you can view film metadata while you edit using industry-standard offline resolutions-you can easily track media all the way from rough-cut to conform. Script-based editing means that changing your screenplay updates your Avid timeline. Auto-sync and quarter-frame slip offer the fastest, most flexible workflow with external audio sources, such as DAT.
Better conform. For many editors, Avid Xpress Pro HD is all they need to go straight to screen. But, as an Avid editor, you have easy access to the world's most sophisticated film and video resources. Avid's Total Conform makes it all easy and fast to apply the professional finishing tools used on today's big-budget blockbusters. Save effort, time, and money-and tell your story the way it was meant to be told.
Better quality. 10-bit processing provides the highest quality SD images. Combine with Avid DNxHD for unmatched image quality for encoded deliverables such as WMV HD, MPEG-4 AVC (H.264), MPEG 2, and Flash. Avid Marquee provides both 10-bit and HD output for advanced title and graphic animation with uncompromised quality.
Better integration. Industry standards such as OMF, AAF and MXF enable seamless software integration with Digidesign Pro Tools and Avid 3D software, among many others. Integration with Digidesign 002 hardware offers an audio editing control surface and a hardware-based edit controller inside Avid Xpress Pro HD software. Add Avid Mojo hardware for uncompressed SD I/O; accelerated video and effects output to both client monitor and tape; and SD downconvert of HD media for displaying HD images on an SD monitor.
Better networked storage. Avid Unity MediaNetwork and Avid Unity LANshare EX, the smartest networked storage in the business, let you connect as many Avid editors as you need, for true collaboration at any scale.
Better value. Affordable Avid Xpress Pro HD software includes powerful title and graphic animation with Avid Marquee; DVD authoring with Sonic Solutions ReelDVD; encoding with Sorenson Squeeze Compression Suite; and professional soundtrack creation with SmartSound Sonicfire Pro.
Better graphics. Avid Xpress Pro HD includes integrated in-place titling, and supports realtime animated alpha channels for logos and animations. It also includes both Boris Graffiti LTD and Boris FX LTD which provide 2D and 3D vector title animation, title animation, vector paint and advanced compositing.
Better publishing. Avid Xpress Pro HD lets you publish to all the formats you will need from tape, to web to DVD. Avid Xpress Pro HD includes the highest quality encoding of MPEG-1, MPEG-2 SD/HD, MPEG-4 AVC (H.264), WM9/WMV HD, Macromedia Flash, Real and Quicktime. It also includes Sonic ReelDVD LE for advanced DVD authoring.
Better media management. Spend more time editing and less time looking for your footage. Avid's media management is based on years of experience managing large projects, and is the most robust in the industry. Easily track which shots have been used, rename clips without losing links to original footage, and never slow down for even the largest projects.
*HDV will be provided in a free update to all Avid Xpress Pro HD customers in an update planned for future release. "

Where in there does it mention anything about P2 support. The DVCPro HD and DVCPro 50 is tape based support over firewire that still has plenty of kinks in that workflow.

I hope I am wrong about this, but I'm not sure they are fully supporting P2 in AXP HD.
Maybe I'm just paranoid after a lackluster report from Avid at NAB.

As far as I understand, the only thing involved in "P2 support" is changing the file format from MXF to whatever format the NLE needs and then copying it to a hard drive. Even if Avid doesn't support this, which I'm pretty sure it does, there will be a software utility to translate the files and then you can just use Windows Explorer to copy the files over.

 ..let me see if i can go through this without being too redundant.. i am very redundant .. so hopefully im not too redundant .. or too redundant.

DVCPRO HD and DVCPRO 50 are codecs/video format. it doesnt matter where the footage comes from .. whether you capture it via firewire from a tape in realtime to turn it into a file, or simply already have the file and load it onto the hard drive alot faster than realtime. P2 is simply a small solid state hard drive. its not a new format. its just a small drive that stores the DVCPRO files on it.. you simply transfer then to your editing drive, and AXP HD can edit those files.

its very clear that the support is there. i think your confused because your considering P@ as some type of format instead of simply being a little solid state hard drive that stores the video files on it.

the HVX200 is like a computer with a camera on it.. it captures its video DIRECTLY to computer file format using the DV or DVCPRO25/50/HD codecs, and stores it on little P2 drives. theres no need to "capture" the files from the P2 .. you just transfer then to your editing machine. the NLE doesnt have to "support" p2. its just a drive. it only has to support working with whats on the drive. just like you can stick a regular firewire dirve on the HVX and transfer your files/footage to it, and then take the fiewire drive off and throw it on your PC and edit the footage.. its the same thing.. the NLe doesn need to support "editing external firewire drives".. its not a new format of video.. its just the type of drive the data is on.. thats all. the computer the nle is on just needs to see the drive is there and see the files on it.. and since P2 is basically a raid array in a pcmcia interface.. your computer sees it as a little hard drive, and away you go.

This is all very interesting if you want to talk theory. I work every day with Avid, DVCpro and DVcam and Beta SP formats and not everything is as simple when you start talking about HD and daily workflow. So, a year from now when you can maybe buy this camera, how are you going to get the files into Avid? A new drive/deck purchase, right? And what are you going to deliver to the broadcast station or your client? On a DVCPro HD tape? Well, that's another $20,000 for that deck cause I don't think you will be able to deliver on P2 cards. Just doesn't seem practical from a real day to day workflow.
