PC clients can't read drives with P2 footage

I had two clients in the last week who use PCs. 95% of all my clients have Macs. I was under the impression that I had to format the drives (Lacie Rugged and Quad) using Disc Utility the MS DOS FAT option.

Both clients, one using Windows 7 the other XP, say the drive is not coming up. Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks!

I spoke to a guy from the Geek Squad at Best Buy and he said if the drives I buy are recognized by my Mac, there should be no need to reformat them. Do you think my reformatting them is causing this issue? I used the last drop down option under Erase on the Disk Utility menu: MS-DOS (FAT)

Isn't this the one I should use? Or is the geek at Best Buy correct and I shouldn't have to do any reformatting? All the DPs I have asked don't know because all their clients use Macs.

Try that. Obviously, you never ever reformat a drive with data on it. Partition Magic might be prescribed, but never ever do so with a drive containing footy.

I have a certain producer that I work with who once formatted a drive so my P2Genie batching PC could see it. Neither of us could ever get that drive to work after she did. Try a new, out of the box drive for Mac. The PC should just see any P2 Contents and Last Clip files with no formatting necessary.

Sorry you're having this issue.

It may seem like a simple solution, but how about your clients download the PS2 driversd and viewer from Panasonic. Even if they h ave a card reader it won't work without the rght drivers.

I don't do MAC and my PC reads the card just fine.

Also, if you are a Premiere user the new Cs5 version edits AVC-Intra natively.

My next PC client is bringing in their own PC formatted drive, that should work on my Mac right?

Most of my clients will not be receiving my P2 cards, although some have asked, because they are out of towners. Usually I deal with a producer/client and the editor is in another town.

Try having them go to "Disk Management", as it may show up there as a foreign drive. A friend came over the other day with a USB drive that my Vista did not see when I connected it - and I went to Disk Management and was able to add it that way.

If they don't know how to get to Disk Management, in Vista it's found at Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management. I assume it's similar for Win 7
