PC card slot vs Xpress card slot

I am planning on picking up a new Macbook Pro to replace my current Powerbook. I started wondering if the transfer speed from the P2 card is as fast on the Powerbook with the pc card slot as the Macbook Pro with the Xpress card slot and the adapter. If I can get just as good a transfer speed I might keep my Powerbook as well and use it in the field for transfer rather than bringing out the new laptop.
Also, if I dedicate the Powerbook to this purpose do I still need FCP on the computer?

you do NOT need FCP to transfer P2 content. just the P2 drivers to see the cards.

i havent heard any reports on P2 transfer speed expresscard VS pcmcia. but express+duel adapter better WAY spank old dedicated PCMCIA or i woudnt bother with a new mac laptop just for transfer...

HOWEVER - i did install FCP 6 on my old 1.0 GHZ powerbook 17 and when i tried to launch FCP it gave me a warning that it needs a PPC G4 of 1.5 GHZ or more to run, then quickly closed... WHAAAA!!!!!
i guess my old powerbook is now injest only... ok.

Thanks for the info. I am going to get the new Macbook Pro anyway since I still do a fair bit of editing away from my G5. I am looking for something faster than the Powerbook for other reasons. I was thinking of just giving the Powerbook to a relative but then I thought it might be useful for in the field for transferring from P2 cards.
I am glad I won't need to keep FCP on it since I would like to free up as much available hard drive space for the footage.
Can I view clips on the Powerbook without FCP or is there a lighter piece of software I can use to preview clips once they are on the computer?
