Pause + Rec disappear?

Finding this forum just made my night.
I'm fairly new to my DVX100A and this will definitely come in handy.
Okay well i'm a skateboarder...finally got a camera with my college refund check to do some filming with.

I got it used but it only had 100 hours on it and its in perfect condition.
I know quite a bit about cameras so it wasnt to hard to figure most of the stuff out.

I had a problem with the red X flashing in the top left of the LCD, and i knew it meant it had something to do with the tape, and this forum confirmed that my heads are probably a little dirty.

My question now is,
Today i was filming a session and i have my DVX set to beep when i hit record.
So i hit the button and i didnt hear it beep, took a look at the lcd, and where it says "Pause" and "Rec" in the top mid of the lcd, nothing was there. It still had the counter under it, but both of them were gone and my camera wasn't recording. So i took the tape out and rebooted the camera and it worked fine. It did it twice today but both times it didn't do anything major. I haven't had a problem with this since i got it. I've only put 11 hours on it since then.

Much appreciation.
-Jake

P.S. - Just realized i didn't post this in the technical section.
Sorry about that.

Hello Jake,

I would fast-forward a brand new 60 minute tape to the end and then rewind it all the way back to the beginning. I would also make sure that you're using the right tape. You may need to find out what kind of tape-stack the previous owner was using but I would recommend using Panasonic AMQ tape.

I hope this helps.

Yeah i've been using panasonic tapes. I have no idea what the previous ower used thru it, which was a concern of mine.

But i've shot quite a bit since the day that happened, and i've had not trouble at all so far.
i'll be sure to keep you posted if something does go wrong. (knock on wood)

Thanks for the input though!
-Jake
