Passthrough with DVX?

Hi, I was wondering whether the DVX has analog-to-digital passthrough. I have a TON of old Video8 cassettes that I am dying to transfer. My set up would be Analog Video8 camcorder to DVX using RCA, then simultaneously having the DVX output via firewire to the computer without it having to be recorded to tape. :huh:

I tried and could never get it to work... I know that really doesn't help. It seems one or the other, both not both at the same time...
 
Oh no! Its going to be really hard because Video8 cassettes run for 2.5 hours and miniDV's are only 90 minutes on LP!

At what point does the camera know it's input? Is it when it "sees" that there are too many cables? Is there a way to "trick" it into looping through...

It would certainly save a step or two.... I think.
 
Yes you can do this. The DVX can pass through an analog signal out its firewire port without having to record it to tape.
