.Pass Thru OK?

I have captured footage in FCP.

In terms of playback, if I go OUT of the computer,
then IN to a camera (via firewire), then OUT to my
calibrated NTSC monitor via RCA/composite -----
should I be getting a reasonably accurate representation
of my footage on the monitor, in terms of color, resolution,
brightness, etc.

(I'm doing this daisy chain because for now, I don't
have direct computer-to-NTSC monitor accessibility)

I don't do it that way, but I see no reason that wouldn't work fine. Except if you can use S-Video it would be more accurate colors and sharper.

What exactly do you do? Did you install a special
card to go direct from computer to monitor?
What kind?

Does the Sony DVMC-DA2 qualify
as one of these?

Re: .Pass Thru OK?

I would suggest looking into a DV deck. I run all my NLEs through a DV deck via firewire then out to my monitor. Using camera pass-thru should work fine, but I wouldn't put the unnecessary wear and tear on my camera (especially, if you are using it as a deck).

Yeah, I think that would work. I use the Canapus AD/VC-100. Very nice unit with 2 S-video in, 1 composite in, 1 s-video out, 1 composite out, 2 stereo audio in, 1 stereo audio out and 2 firewire I/O. Auto switch ports and manual button switch on front/top. Also has hardware switches underneath for NTSC or PAL, NTSC Setup for 0 or 7.5 IRE, Locked Audio On or Off, Audio Mode 48K 16bit or 32K 12bit, Power ON Input Mode Analog or Digital, Input Select Mode Manual or Auto. Uses the same codac as Avid Express so it does a very nice job on conversions.

I had this unit for about 1-1/2 years and has never given me any problems. Here's a Profeel link that came up on search: http://www.profeel.com/advc100.htm

Re: .Pass Thru OK?

I have been doing it through a Sony dcr-PC110 that I use for a deck. Seems to work fine but the monitor is not the best.
