I had left by the time Red Alert II was started; Red Alert and Tiberian Sun were my last projects at Westwood. I don't know how many Vegas guys went to the Red Alert II team. I know that most of the core guys didn't move (guys like Joe Bostic and Steve Tall).

Most of the top Westwood development guys reformed as Petroglyph (http://www.petroglyphgames.com/); they're now working on the next Star Wars real-time strategy game. They're located about one medium-weight stone's throw away from the old Westwood building too!

Just to follow up on this thread. Has anyone been able to confirm the dvcproHD pass-thru (from FCP)? It would a great addition to already awesome camera. thanks, if anyone could check that out. -a

Pass-through monitoring

Has anyone determined whether the camera can support pass-through monitoring like DV cameras can?
 
Folks it doesn't sound too good. I asked Kaku to try this out and it sounds like it does not work. He stated that the nature of the P2 doesn't allow for streaming of DVCpro-HD to the camera. It doesn't sound promising. HOwever Barry has said that he saw video being displayed on an HVX200 that was receiving a stream from another HVX200 via firewire. This was a pre-release model so maybe something has changed.

We'll have to wait wait and see. But it doesn't sound encouraging.
 
like I said.....at Rezfest I was told "no" except for DV25.
If it did, Jan would have confirmed this by now.
 
It absolutely does allow for firewire streaming, in and out, in all modes.

And it absolutely does allow for pass-thru in standard-def modes.

The only question is whether the HD component outputs are active during HD pass-thru. I should be able to answer that Wednesday, when I have two production-model HVX's and a high-def monitor all together.
 
I think the answer is made perfectly clear in the manual:

"No guarantees are made for the playback images when signals from an external device are recorded (video check level)"

Actually, it really is clear in the manual... it seems... p. 87:

"1394 input images cannot be output from the COMPONENT OUT terminal"...

Someone with a camera, feel free to prove this wrong! Please!
 
That's a bummer... but atleast we can capture to the P2cards and then play it back through the component afterwards.. Or atleast I hope we can. When I get FCP update this will be one of the first thigns I do...
 
no component HD output from Final Cut. I spent a couple of hours trying to get it to work... to view my music video shot in 720p on my HDTV and didn't have any luck... no passthrough out to HD in VTR/MCR mode. bummer. (Now I have to sneak in to work to and find a machine with a blackmagic box with hd-sdi out and montor inorder to see it)

the DV pass through does work.
