Party at night?

This question might be kind of stupid to some of you, but I just got my DVX last christmas (DVX100b) and this is like my second time using it. I need it to shoot a commercial for my class and it's supposed to be a party at night (outdoors in a patio) there's going to be some lightning probably decorative and i'd like to know what settings I should use for this, and how much light to make it look good? I really need help on this one. Thanks!:D

one large overhead light, and a few dim ones in other directions. try to have one place where alot of the action will happen, and the rest dim or fade off.

Set it for tungsten preset (3200k). Consider using china balls overhead for general ambiance, you could even include them in the shot without taking the viewer out of the story.

I shot a similer scene like you and it isn't really that hard.
but I would say lighting the subject is the easy part, the problem I had was the back ground.
if it's at night it will be completely black.
so when you setup a shot, think more about the background

I thought about that, I really don't want the background to be pitch black so I'll definitely light the space... now pardon my stupidity but I'm reaally new to all this hehe, so how do I "turn on" the tungsten preset on the cam? thanks guys :)

go into PRESET mode on the White Balance switch (The Bottom Selection). It will either say 5.6K or 3.2K. 3.2 is tungsten and 5.6 is daylight. If it is on 5.6 simply hold down the AWB button on the front of the camera until it switches... I sorta have a question for people on this thread. I have heard people talk about Black Balance on the DVX. It there a way to do that or is it just one of the scene file settings?
