parital span sometimes. sometimes you get one long file?

I recorded 1.16 hour last week in two files. Yesterday I recorded 1.20 hours and the camera split it into 6 partial spans on each p2 card.
Why does it split it sometimes?

I can understand if it alwas split it to not exeed like 4gig file sizes or jumping from one p2 to another. But this?

P2 file size is limited to 4GB. If you do not stop the REC, it will create a new clip (called "incomplete" in FCP) when the file size reaches that. And, a new clip is created every time you stop and start the camera. A "spanned" clip occurs when one card fills up and recording continues seamlessly onto the next card.

File size and recording time differ depending on which record mode you have selected. 1080p is about a GB per minute. DVCPro25 SD saves much more time in the same space.

Wierd since one file can be like 50 minutes and then all the sudden i get 12 spanned clips of the end of the show? So 13 clips all together.
