Pardon my ignorance, but can I use a Macro lens for normal shots?

I have recently acquired a 100mm f/2.8 Macro and was wondering if it's capable of taking regular photos\video? As in, non-Macro?

Or is it designed in such a way that it's focusing distances are very short, thus requiring me to be close to the subject in order to produce a usable\sharp image?

I ask because I had intended to bring it with me to a concert tonight, but this question has bugged me enough that I'm not entirely sure.

Thanks for your time.

I have never heard of a macro lens that cannot also focus long. But since you already have it, why not just experiment?
