FS7: paper differences summarized between F55 F5 FS7 FS5

Has there been any talk of what the Shogun or Assassin can offer the FS5 in way of improved codec? Bypassing the burst mode only for slow motion? I'm interested in this being my first foray into a pro camcorder.

Just saw the FS5 in person at a local dealer open house. I can't believe how small this camera is, for those who haven't seen it, it is small. In a good way of course.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure Metabones have said that you can't actually get more than f/0.95 from a Speedbooster, so an f/0.95 on the Speedbooster won't necessarily gain you an extra stop. Optical physics coming into play I imagine.

I limited the 0.71x Metabones Speed Boosters to f/0.90, not f/0.95. We could have opened up the design to work down to f/0.7 when attached to a Canon 50mm f/1.0 lens, but that would cause the front element of the Speed Booster to get so large that it would collide with other lenses, and also would possibly not allow for Smart Adapter electronics. The Canon 50/1.0 is a rare lens that almost nobody uses, so we concentrated on being fully compatible with the relatively common f/1.2 SLR lenses. However, "f/1.2" is really just 1/3 stop faster than f/1.4, meaning a more accurate numerical value is f/1.26. Hence, f/(1.26 x 0.71) = f/0.90.

The special 0.64x and 0.58x Speed Boosters for smaller formats are still compatible with f/1.2 optics, and they are limited to f/0.80 and f/0.74, respectively.

Thanks Brian, good to know!

Guess I will add to the first post that the FS5 can not output to external ports while recording internally. What a bummer that is!

Thanks,

Just to be clear - if you record in 4K internal, no external output in 4K OR HD? If you record in HD internal, HD output no problem. Correct?

That is correct.

I will post a video later this week of exactly how this works using an Odyssey7Q+. There is already a video on another board showing it is fine in HD using a Shogun.

I saw the Atmos video, but wasn't 100% certain if even HD was disabled via ports when recording 4K internal, but it is disabled, and good of you to confirm.

Alister says this will be fixed in v1.1 I believe, maybe no need to panic on this one?

Can the F5 output 16bit raw to a Convergent Design or Atomos recorder without having to also use the AXS-R5?

F5 can't do XAVC-L at all like the FS7 can? (handy I'd think sometimes for long run events)

Is a bummer the F5 is only a 3 stage ND filter vs 4 stages on the FS7 (or "infinite" on the FS5 :-o ).

No, the F5/F55 can not output RAW at all unless to the R5 unit. You could get 4K over SDI however, but, it would be 10-bit.

Correct, the F5/F55 don't have XAVC-L. Maybe coming but i haven't heard any rumours.
