Panning Strobe in HVX200

Hi can someone please post some footage of slow and fast pans in both 24 and 60P? I'd like to see if the slow mo footage reduces the panning strobe effect that 24 p has. Sorry if this is old news, but i'm about to buy and want to see the best and worst aspects of this camera. I'd love to hear more about what causes this effect and if it causes problems with all directions of camera movement, or just horizontal movement. For instance is it a problem with horizontal movement on a dolly as well as pans?

Strobing is Good

The strobing effect during pans is perfectly normal for 24p. And for 24fps film.
It's one of the natural characteristics of anything shot at 24 frames per second.
You'll see the same exact strobing during pans in every feature film shot in 35mm.
It's standard. That's why the American Cinematographer's Manual has
a chart graphing out acceptable panning speeds when shooting at 24 frames.

The fact that it's there is really a good thing, if you want your HVX footage
to look like a real movie.
It can fool even experienced industry
people into thinking you shot on (much more expensive) film.

If you don't like the look of it, then you can shoot at a faster frame rate,
and it will not be nearly as apparent. But then you lose the "real" movie look.

Note: It is also possible that you've viewed footage that was given an exaggerated
strobe effect by something in the compression process.
If everything is not set properly, sometimes frame rates can get a bit funky,
and look more stroby than normal. Just a thought.

Hi!

Thanks so much for the detailed response. I think my concerns arose from checking out a dvx and roaming around with it handheld... i'm reading up on it and apparently the strobing is worse on the lcd/viewfinder than it is in a typical display device.

anyway, thanks for everything... this forum rocks!
