Not sure what to make of it. I would really rather have the rumored bright 12-60mm but this thing looks like a revolution for truly pocketable large sensor interchangeable lens systems.

I think it's great for the system, small bodies need small lens. Should bring in more people wanting to advance from the point and shoot market.

Anyone else notice it has Power OIS rather than Mega OIS, should be a good upgrade, good for video I'm betting

Looks beautiful to me and a good sign for the rumored 12-60 to have power zoom as well !

I don't think the rumoured 12-60 will have power zoom. As that lens would appeal more to semi-professional photographers, unless the intent of the lens is for the AF100 and more videography focused.

and 43rumors has photos of a new highend 12-35 x

43 Rumors, actually reported 2 new fast high quality fast Panasonic zooms in the pipleline, a 12-35mm and a 35-100mm zoom. There is an image of what looks like a Panasonic powerpoint presentation with images of the lenses. Panasonic has previously released information on forthcoming lenses like this, and I've no reason to belive that this isn't genuine. I think the rumoured 12-60m fast zoom is pure wishful thinking, and there has never been any credible information to suggest that Panasonic have plans for a zoom covering this range. Panasonic have said on a number of occassions that they were developing fast zooms and higher end lenses, but they have never mentioned the focal lengths. This information indicates that Panasonic's strategy for covering the wide to medium telephoto range with fast zooms, are 2 zooms covering this range. It maks sense because the Olympus fast zooms covering this range were a 14-35mm f2 and a 35-100mm f2. Panasonic can hardly have failed to notice that the 2 most coveted 4/3 lenses for using on the AF100, were these 2 Olympus lenses. The only problem being they are designed for a longer back flange distance, so probably bigger than need be for a shorter back flange distance, and they don't AF properly on m4/3. So it would make sense for Panasonic to replicate this range, given that they already know that these focal length ranges have already proved popular for high end users, and there is a demand for them. There's no indication of what the maximum apertures of these lenses are, but we can safely assume that they will be quite fast. I also think that with higher end lenses, they would be more aimed at users of higher end cameras, whether they be AF100 type video cams, or higher end m4/3 stills orientated cameras. Currently there are no real higher end m4/3 cameras, but both Panasonic and Olympus have spoken about them, so there must be some plans for them.

Yes this collapsible zoom is a bit slow, the same as the kit zoom. However, it is also a huge breakthrough. The volume sales of m4/3 cameras are to those using them as an alternative to higher end compact cameras. Up until now the whole problem with this class of cameras is that although the bodies can be made small, the lenses are huge in comparison, and defeat the point of the compactness of the cameras. So a zoom, which is the same size as a pancake, and which makes the camera a lot more pocketable (albeit for big pockets) will have enormous appeal. I think the only problem being that it is more expensive than the kit zoom. If Panasonic, or anyone else, wants to give mirrorless cameras more appeal by making them more pocketable, they need to do this with a more moderately priced kit zoom.
