F65: Panavision F65?

Hi friends,

Is this the Sony F65 with a big tune up? It looks like they replaced some body panels. Whats the going price on one of these? $250,000 like the F35?

I take it you haven't read the archives.

The Panavision Genesis was developed by Panavision and Sony, and initially released in 2004. It shares the sensor later used in the Sony F35, and was developed to work with Sony's SRW-1 HDCAM-SR tape deck system. Panavision later released a solid state docking drive to as an option. The F35 then, is a somewhat updated Genesis, with different color science and processing, to an extent. Like the F35, F65, Arri Alexa, and most other digital cinema cameras, the Genesis has a Super35 size sensor.

By contrast, Panavision is developing a 70mm digital cinema camera. I don't beleive it's available yet. It will use 70mm glass, instead of 35mm.

Also, Panavision is notorious for never selling their creations - they only rent them. They will destroy their cameras to ash before selling one. So, an F35 is the closest you'll ever come to owning a Panavision Genesis.

In fact, the F35 is probably as close as anyone will get to owning Panavision "tech" as anything, really.

Do not expect to see a 65/70mm Panavision digital camera any time soon... they always say they're working on one but it won't happen.

However, it will not be long before someone puts the new 70mm Primos on an Alexa 65 (like it is probably already happening, he said knowingly)
