Panasonic Tape Deck

I've got a Panasonic AG-DV2500 Tape Deck. It's got quite a few hours on, maybe 100-200, not sure. I was wondering if an ordinary head cleaning tape, say the Dynex one, could be used in this to help preserve it, also sometimes I have to recapture clips because a there are small glitches, usually a sign of dirty heads. If this can't be used, how can I clean the tape deck? without paying hundreds of dollars.

Tape decks cost more than they're worth IMO.

You may aswell get a cheep camera with a firewire port and use that and when that wears out get a new one.

I already have the tape deck... so that's not an issue, i am wondering if i can use a normal mini dv head cleaner tape, in my mini dv tape deck..?

Decks are worth every penny... especially if you keep them functional.

As for the cleaning tape, use it as a last resort. It's like running sand paper across your heads.

The same blank tape method that can be used in cameras can also be used in decks. Get a fresh, blank tape. Unwrap it, put it into the deck, and run it in PLAY mode for the duration of the tape. Don't rewind it. Eject, and throw it away. That should clear up minor contaminants.

If it gets really bad, you can try a cleaning cassette, but a thorough, professional cleaning is a worthy investment... especially if the heads are very dirty.

ok thanks for the imput. I wish it didn't require the waste of a perfectly good, new tape, but if that's what it takes than i'm all for it.

$3.00 to clean the machine isn't a bad deal, though. And considering it does less damage to the heads than a real cleaning cassette, it's worth it.

this is very true, well i just picked up a pack of six new tapes so i'll give it a shot, thanks again. BTW, had never heard of the new tape technique even in normal cameras, how does that work anyway?
