Panasonic SD9- rodeo. Great B camera for HVX!!!

Here's a brief clip from something my buddy shot the other day. I've been so impressed with this little camera. I know it's not HVX footage but there's no forum for this little guy, just yet. I'm so much happier than I was owning the HV20. The color saturation and overal bright and clean picture is incredible, except in low-light then it's not so good. Overall love the nonlinear workflow and this footage was captured with the intensity card and converted real time to 1080p DVCPRO HD for easy editing. Simply great camera for the money. This was shot with a polorizer, crusthed the blacks a bit and that's it...

enjoy and I'll post some aerial footage and other stuff from this camera tomorrow. Simply a great value and a perfect B camera to our HVX.. if you have enough light. Thankfully also no CMOS chip. That is just an ugly ugly creation IMHO.. simply dreadful for action sports work.

cheers justyn, have been recently trying to figure out which camera to pick up as a second hvx and the sd9 seems to be the one to go for, sounds like it has the most manual controls in its class,

the only thing that worries me is the joystick.. how is it for focusing?

Would love to see a full frame grab from the camera along with some action sports..

Joe,

I'm compressing something else for you to check out. The Joystick does absolutely suck... terrible design but I'm learning to deal with it. The other big drawbacks are where they put the HDMI port, under the battery and that in order to export out both the HD component and also the SD, you have to have the LCD open. Overall just a few annoyances but it's a sweet camera for the money.. and the only one I've seen that has component analogue out and also HDMI.

I'm not sure how to rate the focusing as it's done through the joystick and menu.. but it does have a lot more manual controls than the HV20 did.. Really more simplified to increase the shutter as well.. and thank GOD... it's a global shutter. No more jello vision CMOS footage for me. That HV20 was so aweful with any camera shake or vibrations or a pan faster than like 10 seconds from end to end.

I simply love what this camera does and for the money it's a sweetie. I'd say you'll need a wide angle for it for sure and the only other major gripe is that since it's so new you'll have to pay way too much for the batteries... But the SD cards are cheap. You could record for 2 hours on one card at full quality and that would only set you back 80 bucks. I already have 4 cards and 4 batteries and I could run all day on that and shoot a ton of footage. Post is a pain but I've got a workflow that I'm developing...

I'll post something else withhin the hour... cheers
