I got on Facebook with Panny and tweeted. They said they would get an answer from engineering and get back. Just now they did.

@PanasonicDirect Need 4:4:2 live HDMI out on GH2. Can do?

@mojohand43 Hello, the GH2 can do 4:2:2 8 bit processing.

So there it is folks. Gonna need another Ninja...:cheesy:

Panny didn't say it IS doing clean 4:2:2. Engineering says it can so maybe V can find it or maybe we'll get it officially in an update.

I heard on another board that HDMI does 4:2:2, but it does it from the compressed 4:2:0 signal, so there's no benefit to recording the HDMI. The 4:2:2 is interpolated, so you're not getting any better data than gets recorded to the SDHC card. This is different from the AF100, which puts out pre-compression 4:2:2 and has an HD-SDI out for recording. IMHO, the Stalin hack will do more for your GH2 material than an Atomos Ninja will.

I'm pretty sure it would be the equivelent to converting to 422 in cineform. So the ninja is really not all that necessary. I remember reading something from Barry on this subject, will have to search a bit.
