Panasonic S5

Great job getting the groom's reactions and brides walking up the aisle, change of speed was nice too, both videos really excellent! Excellent audio too.

Both very pretty. Really nice exposures and compositions on all the prep and couples photoshoots. Great skintones, foliage color, and nice moody palette

Nice. That's challenging lighting to film (the first wedding). Direct sun on face mixed with shadows. More important than pixel peeping your footage, the overall feel, pacing, and shot selection and variation, work nicely.

Thanks Peter, yes the ceremony on that one was SUPER challenging... but I felt like all the cameras worked well.

As a gh5 owner I’d welcome the full frame but I’m REALLY concerned about the Lowe Rez viewfinder . I use the viewfinder ALOT on the gh5 to maintain critical focus and exposure . Someone with an S5 : how does the lower Rez viewfinder compare? Is it as useable as the one on the gh5? Thanks

I asked this question a few pages back and was told that it is still usable for critical focus. Definitely a concern of mine as well but I'll be renting this camera to test the EVF myself before taking the plunge.

Took my new S5 out as a B cam on a Weebill. I was recording UHD 100mpbs 29.97 on a Lexar v60 card. After about a minute of recording, I got a fast beeping and had to shut down the cam. This happened several times so I stopped using the cam on the job. After the shoot, I was able to record (at least 10 min) with no problem. I searched the manual and didn't find anything that would address that issue.

Any thoughts as to what causes the fast beeping?

As you used a Lexar card it was probably a speed / write issue. I'd test it with a different card / brand. Lexars are widely known for issues. Sometimes they work but it's nothing you can trust on. I had 2 QXD which worked flawless with the FS7 for 3yrs. With the S1 and S1R they were causing camera freezes even in stills mode. After I changed them for Sony QXD cards I had no more problems.

Thank you for your advice. I wish I was able to reproduce the issue.

Was on the phone with US Panny support, just trying to find out what kinds of issues could trigger a loud beeping alarm (because I couldn't find anything in the documentation). The agent had no answer. Any thoughts on a general alarm function in the camera?

Did you shut down the camera or did the camera shut down? Any chance it was left somewhere warm and it was an overheating warning?

I can't think of what else it could be besides overheating or media/battery failure...

___

What else did you do with the camera?

Did you try to install any firmware? Network configurations? Any settings? I would backtrack and troubleshoot...

Maybe check the main, main menu (usually one of the last ones) and see if there are any alert/notification/volume settings to change.

I shut the cam down. We were shooting in sun on a 60 degree day, but the cam was not overheating. It was only on and recording for two minutes. There was no temp indicator. I just wish Panny support could even provide a menu of reasons for the alarm. No one there even was aware of an alarm.

Thanks again. I'll keep trying to figure it out. I may just return it to B&H for another copy.

Maybe try to record the highest quality possible on the slowest SD card you have and see if anything happens.

It sounds like some engineering failure because there are no loud beeping alarms on any cameras that I can think of (over 70 at the top of my head). There is a recording start/stop chime on some that's pretty audible, but it lasts for a second and it can be turned off.

Is it possible the camera has an alarm clock? (I'm kind of serious, lol.)
