Panasonic released a GH4-like scene file

Panasonic just made available a scene file for download for the DVX200, for use in the "Natural" color palette of firmware version 1.51 or later. You can get it here:

http://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/products/ag-dvx200/custom_scene.html

It looks like it's just one scene file out of the six in the package, so when you download the package and load it on your SD card, you may want to only load in the SCENE4 scene file.

They named it "STILL-LIKE"; presumably that's because the GH4 is a stills camera.

This is not my scene files, this is their own interpretation of making a GH4-like scene file, and (as said before) this one works under the "Natural" color palette.

Barry, have you tried this new scene from Panasonic? If yes, how did you like it? Anyone else out there that has given this new scene a try? Any opinions on it or sample clips to show? Let me know. Thanks

-John

Barry, do you know which GH4 profile is being emulated in this scene file? Seems somewhat vague.

Hi guys, here is a very quick test of the new Panasonic GH4 Still-Like scene file. I'l leave this up for a few days. I was shooting at 1080p, Normal Sensitivity, ISO 2000, 1/60th, wide open, v 1.51 firmware, manual white balance. I was using a MicroPro LED panel nearly at full power behind a defuser. The LED panel was mounted directly on the camera's front shoe. The annoying flickering on the picture in the background was from a ceiling fan. Again this was a real quick test and not meant to be perfect. This seems like nice scene file. This is typically a person that I have problems getting good skin tones with but I'm happy with these results. Had I taken the time to set up my regular light kit I think we would have seen even better results.

I've removed the audio on purpose.

That is correct. You left out Master PED -3

So I tested the new settings. Looks ok, I want to know what I can do to make the image a bit more organic or richer in depth

You may try adjusting the Master Ped or possibly changing Gamma Modes. There's way more to an image than just those two settings but they are a pretty safe bet to change without completely upsetting your image.

Also keep in mind that a good and proper white balance can put you on different ends of the spectrum as far as image quality goes. When I first setup that scene that I listed above I was in AWB. It looked ok. I decided to do a manual white balance even though I thought what I was about to shoot was going to be acceptable. I did notice a change after the manual white balance and it seemed to bring out the colors even more.

Has anyone shot the same subject with a DVX200 useing the new Panasonic GH4-Like scene file and then shot it with a GH4 to see how how the cameras match?

Hello all. I would appreciate some help from you folks in the know. I downloaded the new scene files but am hesitant to use them. Will they erase the current scene files that shipped with the camera? I plead ignorance on this topic. What is the proper procedure? Thanks to all. This site is great. Cheers. Tom

Loading anything will overwrite either an individual scene or all of them depending how what you select after pressing load. If you want to load just one scene into one position in memory you can do that or you can overwrite all of the factory scenes. The good news is that you can easily reset just the scene files and the factory scenes will get reloaded into the camera.

Don't be afraid to play around with the scenes either by adjusting them or loading someone else's into memory. It's a few button presses to get things back to where they were right out of the box.

And whatever changes you made in the factory files or whatever, you can backup onto an SD and reload them whenever you need. So just backup first.
