Panasonic P2 from HDD to FCP

Hi everyone,
I've shot a project with HVX for the first time. We transfered all the data from the
camera to an HDD through a laptop. As I was told from my DP, we installed the
driver which made the transfer possible. However, now I'm trying to importing the
clips to FCP, which is 5.0.3, from the HDD, FCP gives me an error messege saying
*One or more P2 clips failed to import; probable imcomplete or corrupt clips.* I've
done some research and found out couple facts;

1. I need to upgrade FCP to 5.0.4
>>>I don't understand why I need to when the manual on my version
of FCP tells me that I can import P2 clips.

2. The folders that includes all the information, plus the footage clips, should be moved
to internal hard disk drive.
>>>Could anyone explain me why? Is it because HDD is not fast enough to
communicate with FCP when dealing with HD material, which is big amount of data?

I could ask my DP, but he's out of my reach, for today. Any thoughts would be really
appreciated.

Because Version 5.0.3 and earlier only support STANDARD-DEF p2 clips. Remember, the SPX800 has been out for over a year, shooting DVCPRO and DVCPRO50 to P2. That's what the earlier versions of FCP support.

If you want to use high-def, that only came about in the HVX; the HVX is the only high-def P2 camcorder. And Apple released 5.0.4 specifically to work with the HVX.

As far as moving the folders, you don't do that -- you import the "virtual P2 cards" off your external drives, and it will create new QT files on your capture scratch disk. Don't go copying the folders onto your internal drive (unless you want to, for duplication/backup purposes).

How long does this take for each 4 gig clip? I was planning on dumping to the drive but guess that would have a 2 file redundancy.

When do they anticipate that universal version of FCP?
