GH3 Panasonic Lumix DMC-G6, W/ Samyang 16mm T2.2 Test

I wanted to do a test with the combo, and I have to say, these two work well together, I would get the m4/3rds if I were to do it again due to the gh4 coming out, I bought the Canon mount so I could use it for stills on my T3i, It does not work on my 5d as it was designed for an APSC sized sensor, Shame as it would be pretty damn wide on a full frame, but then again, the 14mm is still a nice lens, however I find this lens to be better than the 14mm Samyang, it's faster, sharper, less distortion, and I'm yet to see any chromatic aberration that's distracting, even wide open. It feels great on the Panasonic G6 or gh cams , I used this lens for every shot in the video.

That's a good video. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for sharing it. I especially liked the matching forms of sun sparkles, railing shadows, and silhouetted puddles around 0:37. And the way you led my eye from the boat emerging on the bottom frame to the boy running on the dunes was nice. The pace matched the soundtrack well too. Well done. How did you get up so high over the water to capture the shot of that boat?

Nice !!!

Great set of images

I have been really pleased with the G6 - Oly 17mm F/1.8 combo I have, which looks very similar.

Cheers,
Pete

Thanks for the compliment Benjobe, I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. The shot of the boat was done from the Sagamore bridge, It's one of the two bridges that you can take to get on Cape cod, It's in a few shots later in the vid. It was super windy up there that day, boy do I hate heights, :)

Thanks c3hammer for the kind words, I love the size of that Olympus you mentioned, the 1.8 is sweet to. How does it feel to pull manual focus? I'm interested in picking up a copy. Can you post some shots with it? and give me your opinion on it? thanks:-)

I think the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 is one the best lenses I've ever shot with. I use it most often on my prototype jib pole stabilizer. With the ultra light G6 and that lens, I can fly it out to 15' or so without issue. It has a very nice manual focus ring. You slide it back and it's in manual mode. Slide it forward and it's auto focus from the camera. A touch close to the body and if you have big hands it could be tough to run manual focus without getting your fingers in the scene. For me it is no problem though.

Here's a few samples.

Anyway that should be give you an idea of how it looks.

Bringing this old post back up because I needed to show it to a user on the Blackmagic forum regarding just HOW GOOD you can make the right $400 lens look on the right $800 camera.

The video in the top post KICKS ARSE.
