Hello, does anyone know how many usage hours are too much for a Panasonic ag-hvx200?? I am looking at one right now that has a total of 800 usage hours, it comes with a 16gb p2 card, fish eye lens, 2 batteries, all accesories it came with, and a mic, all for $2350 is this a good buy? please help!! what is the life expectancy of the hvx? anyone have any ideas?? thanks so much!

As long as it works perfectly - ID buy it. Hours are like miles on a car to me. If the owner maintains it well its going to run.

I agree . . . hours by themselves are of little consequence (assuming you are planning to shoot to P2). They are, of course, an indication of how much the camera has been exposed to the "human condition." Hopefully the one you are looking at is/was a one owner, lovingly cared for, yadda yadda, as opposed to a rental that has been drop kicked a couple of dozen times.

If you are dealing with someone that is basically honest and they have indicated it is fully operational (or have a return policy) I'd say you've got a pretty good deal going.

Best.

It's not like the head hours on tape cameras - at least not if you're looking strictly at the operation hours and using it predominantly with P2.

thanks for the info! i will take what it looks like esthetically and choose accordingly , i am speculating that seller might be stretching the truth he told me he is the second owner and that he doesnt know much about cameras but that it looks great with "normal" signs of wear, this stinks of LEMON anyhow,,one last thing guys, what is the life expectancy of an Hvx200 1000 hours of operation, 10000 of operation, not so much for the heads but when it comes to the internal mechanisms of the cam? thanks so Much!

FYI...I picked up an older HVX with 1400 hours a few weeks back. After cleaning the dust out of the screws and generally cleaning it up, it works fabulously. Absolutely no signs of wear or performance issues thus far.

I wouldn't hesitate on another high hour camera, but you might want to check the heads (obvious) and the operation of the OIS mechanism. Flip the ND switch to ensure it snaps nicely, and make sure the zoom and focus rings are smooth. This is just general advice...no assurance that this is where wear would manifest.

Consider that only the miniDV tape deck is mechaincal. Since the solid state electronics have survived infant mortality, they should run forever. You will want to check out the lens focus and zoom controls, both manual and auto, and general camera function, but if you don't need the tape deck, you shouldn't to be concerned about usage time.

thanks for the advice!

thanks for the advice!

i have to decided to buy the camera, i will let you know how it goes,,thanks for all your advice..

Good point on the ND filter switch on the HVX200 in particular. I have seen the plastic dust shield that slides behind the switch fall off into the camera body. To the service center for that repair. Other than a LCD screen with obvious abrasions or excessive filth, I would simply look for signs (or lack thereof) that the camera had always been kept in a proper case.

Hi, the lcd screen on my HVX200 is broken. I have to replace it but $700 is outside my budget. Does anyone have old camera with an lcd screen to sell or know where I could get one for a good price?
