Panasonic HC-X1 for school performance recording - your thoughts?

Hi all
considering a Panasonic HC-X1 for school performance events; interested to hear from others if there is anything better at this price point that I should consider.

Thanks for any input.

I have never used the camera but I would ask, is 4k part of your filming approach or delivery need? What is your budget? For most events, 1080p is plenty for a long time unless you use 4k to be able to zoom in after the event etc...

I have the HC-X1 as my personal cam, and use the DV200 at work. I have used both of these cameras for school performances- I work for a school district. I find that these cameras work well in good stage lighting. Unfortunately, the district I work in seems to not want to light the stage much anymore. In these sort of marginal lighting situations, I find myself stepping up the gain very quickly.

We use both the DVX200 and a HC-X1 for stage work for school and dance concerts. The colour science is virtually identical for both cameras and often cut perfectly between each other with no need to colour correct afterwards. My mate with the HC-X1 has just ordered a 180 (forgotten the letters) to go with his X1, so they are excellent cameras for stage work....with very clean gain for when you get a school that doesn't have good lighting.
Cheers,

Vaughan

I think it is a good choice. I have used the AG UX180 (almost identical) and the FZ 2500. If you do not need 60P I find the dual codec recording useful: record UHD 4K 30P on one card, and 1080 30P on the other card.
I got it to help with stage shows and lower the number of crew needed. Plan is to use one 4K recording and from it produce a wide shot and tighter shot going to HD.
