GH4 Panasonic HAS indeed auto iso in M for video!

I can shoot video using a GH4 4k photo mode. It shows exposure values like photo modes and and has auto iso in M and auto iso upper limit. It makes just the same video files as normal 4k video.

It is very easy to toggle between S, A, P and M exposure modes.

I can have two different video modes instantly. One with shutter and other with video button.

I must test if it has any drawbacks. One I found. It is more difficult to play 4k video as video in camera. In computer it acts like normal video

I don't think auto ISO is possible 4k photo mode. 4k photo mode only works when mode dial is in 'movie M' mode not in M, S, A or P.

4k Photo works in PHOTO MODES. I can easily change exposure program for video using mode dial. Auto iso works fine with M and the camera is also showing this variable auto iso values. The auto iso changing is very smooth, not stepping.

No it does not. When you activate Photo mode in movie M mode it says ON in the menu, when you turn the dial to photo M mode, or other settings aside from movie M, the Photo mode setting in the menu is grayed out and is OFF.

Mark, Ted

Dial to any photo mode P A S M and select from photo menu the "4k Photo" and rec method "4k burst (s/s). (GH4)

When the 4k photo is activated the camera records video with every photo dial modes AP A S M. Dont try to use any normal video modes.

Are you using firmware version 2.5 ?

That's good to know Vesku. Post some of your video tests on the auto ISO, I used this feature years ago on the canons and found some uses for it, especially when moving a hand held cam from outdoors to indoors and I needed aperture and shutter to be constant. Do some tests if you can put an upper limit on the auto ISO since 1600 and above could be noisy on the GH4.

If you have a GH4 you must test it yourself. I just figured the 4k photo possibility yesterday and I am not 100% sure if it works well in all situations. The most welcome improvement for me compared to normal video is that it shows exposure values in all modes all the time. Auto iso limit is also good because I dont want to use very high isos.

not working for me - I select M, and the 4k burst ss but all 4k options in video are greyed out (I'm on ver 2.5
I use auto iso in HD for weddings on a regular basis

Press photo shutter with photo mode M. Camera records then video. Do you have 4k photo icon in screen? GH4?

4k photo video limitations:
-No AFS
-Audio is always 128kb lossy format.

One more drawback (for PAL countries users): 4k photo mode generates 30p video even if the system frequency selected in the camera settings is 50Hz
Or as anyone found a way to circumvent this?

It is also a good thing for PAL users. It is the only way to shoot 4k 30P if not hacking a camera.

4k Photo has less NR than normal video. The videos are noisier in high iso but the noise is not over processed by camera. It may be better for post NR.

You are right. I am biased by the fact that sometimes my footage gets on broadcast TV, and I need to keep it compatible.

4k photo has much more noise in high iso. 4k photo is useful only with low iso. I wonder how the noisier frames are better for 4k stills?
