Panasonic Hard Shell Case - Is it nice?

I'm sure its a great case, but I would cover up the Panasonic and AVCCAM logos. I had biohazard medical waste stickers on my last pelican case

Get a Pelican 1560 case. Has wheels and a retractable handle, and sells for about the same price. It's the perfect size for the HMC, plus room for charger, batteries, accessories, etc. That Panny case looks like overpriced junk.

I'm a die hard Pelican guy. Anything I can throw overboard into the ocean, and/or run over with a small car - and STILL have my gear (and case) intact, is WAY better than that piece of junk.

Kind of unfair to call it junk when you've only seen a picture. But I agree, the picture makes it look like an old American Tourister suitcase. I also agree with Edweirdo, it's wise not to advertise that you have expensive equipment in a case.

It could be a nice case. But if I were buying a hard case, the Pelicans are hard to beat.

I've seen that case up close, banged it around, checked it out, etc. If it were $50 bucks, you're right - it shouldn't be labeled as junk.

But for $190? I stand corrected: It's overpriced junk.

I second on the Pelican option, i got a Pelican 1600 with padded dividers and it's great... lots of room for lights, audio, cables , and crane/jib =) there's another model (1610) that has the wheels and the handle to haul it

you can get them from here http://www.all-pelican-cases-4-less.com/list_case_pelican.html they also carry other brands...

Back to the Panasonic case, i don't like it... IT'S BLUE!!! (all my gear is color matched to my shoes)

Well die hard Pelican guy you are wrong. The Panasonic case by Thermodyne is an AWESOME case. I have one and use it and I travel constantly. It just made the trip with me to Barbados on sunday. It holds the camera perfectly and has lots of room for the needed camera accessories along with other stuff. It is a pro case and nothing junkie about it. You can pick and pluck if you like or get a case that is custom cut and fitted for your camera and keep it safe. I bought a used Thermodyne for my DVX100 which I sold recently to a fellow user on this group and the camera was mint and the Panasonic Thermodyne Case was a big part of the reason.
Unlike some, I don't throw my stuff overboard, nor run over it with a small car or a large one for that matter. Pelican make great cases and as I write this there are two in my hotel room beside my Panasonic Thermodyne Case. I also use custom cases as well as Clydesdale cases. The Thermodyne is on par or exceeds the Pelican. As for the advertising, what do you actually think that only we know that Pelican cases are for cameras etc?
So to my friend who calls it junk....."see the movie before you write the review"

You say you don't throw your case overboard, and that's great. But, if you do, you'll be screwed with the Panny case. Weather resistant is not enough protection for me.

Plus, it's just ugly. Looks like some old Samsonite case you'd see in a thrift store. And how stupid is it to have the name of the expensive equipment for all to see?

I also recently had one of those cases (the DVX version, it was yellow....obviously harder to steal a bright yellow case).

Thermodyne makes those cases, and they really are solidly built. It could probably take just as much physical abuse as your average Pelican case. As for water tightness...well, Pelican might have the edge there (I never submerged my cases, so who knows). But as previously mentioned, it is custom cut for the camera and accessories, so no pick-n-pluck hassle to deal with.

However, there are other good solutions out there if you need something to hold additional accessories, or if you plan to store your camera with rods/mattebox or something like that.

I carry my mattebox, carbon rails, follow focus and Brevis and prime lenses in a Pelican, my PT 20 is in a Pelican. But just plain black with Fragile stickers on them....I know a dead give-away and not very stylish but necessary due to airline handling history.I ship two portabrace bags with my gear to work out of on location. I think the name thing is nonsense and the ugly thing just more nonsense, but if the colour clashes with your stylish shooting vest and snappy shoes. Well then....go for the color coordinated Pelican and with the no name branding. Buy what works for your gear and the best you can afford. Pelican is not the only one out there. As mentioned Thermodyne makes great cases and they are sealed tight enough for me and I hope never to be "screwed" as a result of throwing my camera overboard. I hope to be on board shooting.

That was a joke, but i still don't like the color... and as far as pelican goes, it's my first and only choice. and i don't pick and pluck, i use padded dividers

I like the dividers too. That pick and pluck foam eventually wears down on the surface and you get the powder-like residue in/on your equipment.

Why would you get a case that advertises its content? Just get pelican case, beat the $hit out of it - spray paint crap on it and put duct tape on it.. basically make it look unattractive as possible..

Here's how I keep mine from being tampered with:

Looks OK... but I really love my AG-HT100. I only had to marginally modify the camera tray to make it fit the HMC150. When I close the case up I can stand on it- then I can column up and shoot over crowds (which I have to do a lot). It has plenty of room for this camera and its accessories, plus my zoom controller and a small on-camera light. It's not water-tight, but it is a great road-warrior case for my needs. Bottom line- you've got to pick a case that meets YOUR needs. I can't understand anyone who uses a bag, or one of those pull-behind jobs- but that's me; other folks seem perfectly happy with them.

I found a picture that reminded me of this thread

All joking aside, I think the panasonic case is ok... i've seen the ones from sony and they look the same (they're just silver/gray)

That's clever, I'll have to do something like that!

Nah.. that's way too obvious.. do something like spray paint "St. Teresa, United Baptist Church - Bible Study Group 3" on it.. nothing from a church looks appealing and that's the damn truth!
