Panasonic GH3 Debut Viideo

My hope is that the 75Mbit/s ALL-I is not just for 60p but actually records that high at 24p as well.

If it's VBR ALL-I GH3 owners will be hoping for a hack. 60p 1080p 75Mbit/s VBR ALL-I wouldn't be pretty. VBR ALL-I falls down in low detail scenes.

This all tells me that when it comes time for an AF100 successor it will probably knock the socks off us with great new features. I think the GH-Xs were an accidental wake up call for the Panasonic professional division. Now here we are with the GH-3. I hope this cam delivers especially after all of the hype from enthusiasts.

Don't be greedy people, anything over the AVCHD spec of 28Mbps will be better. If they made it 100Mbps you'd be complaining that it should of been 120Mbps! Come on, get real folks. We have seen that the GH2, even at 80Mbps can shoot some great video so stop complaining. And if she's able to be hacked then I'm sure we can push out the same 150Mbps @ 24 like we can now, with better sensor then we'll really get great looking video.

SQUIG
gh2 has b-p frames but doesnt have CABAC which would help quality. think how 21mbps of avccam sh!ts on the gh2 24mbps codec. thats how incomplete the codec is.

lets not judge the gh3 while IT HASNT BEEN ANNOUNCED YET. wait for footages and more information. if the codec is properly implemented,(complete AVC features) 72 mbps may be enough for all-i.

The good news is hier Bloom has been playing with it so as soon as the gag order is lifted he'll spill the beans....I feel another Reich video coming.

"Don't be greedy people"

An attempt at humour I suppose.

I imagine the reason they are not putting in a 100-150 mbps mode is that alot of SD cards wouldn't handle it. The 76mbps mode is probably tailored to work on most every class 6 card, less customer service hassles and potential for bad press.

Canon's stellar MPEG-2 4:2:2 X-codec runs in 50mbps, AVC can be a superior codec at lower data rates when properly implemented.

Judging by Sanity 5 Hack it shows us that Mbps is not everything...... He kept the Mbps low and was able to find a way to make amazing quality..... Go do your research!

You could argue that the BMC is the only "large sensor" camera with a built-in professional-caliber codec (meaning, one that is accepted universally by broadcasters) and I would agree with that, but to just say it's the "only camera under $15,000" isn't an accurate statement.

I don't think we'll ever (for the foreseeable future) be able to discuss or compare cameras at his price point again without bringing the BMCC into the mix. I think it's just made such an impact, and raised the bar so much, when it comes to codecs that we'll always have that question in the back of our minds: why AVC/H.264?

We just used to accept it in the past.

We just used to accept it in the past.

Because in the past it made sense somehow. It allowed storage on cheap memory cards. Now these cards became that big and fast they could store ProRes for example. All that artificial codec-crippling, trying to protect thei upper product line bought some time but now almost every camera is going to have at least 8bit 422 out and small and cheap recordes are available. So AVC/H.264 is basically gone already or rather constantly leaving.

Ya and.. this:
Blows away that crappy attempt from Nikon with the D800 launch...
This is not only entertaining to watch, but look at those lowlight scenes!

Resolution looks on point. I'm none too fond of the skin color in the film though. Maybe that's from the post grade; I surely hope so.
Definitely need to see the raw specs and performance of it. How it handles highlights, stops of light and most of all skin tone performance.

Certainly better than the Canon C100 video that made everyone doubt the AVCHD codec, at least this one does not make you doubt the camera. instead you want to see the HD version and get camera details. I keep hearing the Momas and Papas singing Monday,Monday.
