Panasonic GH2 Bruce Dale video

It seems the first video footage by Panasonic for the GH2 at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCxPFga8elk . I post it here because I did not see it mentioned elsewhere apart from the 30+ page of the GH2 official thread. I think it is the first example of proper footage compared to the show floor ones we have seen and pretty indicative of the GH2 quality.

I watched the 1080P version. It's amazingly very sharp and really good image quality in general.... If it allows hdmi out to nano, ki-promini or ninja without quality compromise, it will be insane good.

Too bad its encoded wrong. All of the motion looks like it was shot at one framerate and then encoded at another.

The other flaw I see is a huge addition of either, in camera sharpness, or the addition of unsharp mask in editing software. The last shot has more sharpness artifacts than actual detail in the scene.

One last bit, not to be a negative nelly, but if you look at :30 - :32 it looks like the codec is falling apart as they walk through the grass. Now since this video has other encoding errors, I wont blame this on the codec until someone else tests the camera, or a better encode is uploaded to youtube or vimeo.

i agree with mark about compression etc. however sharpness/resolution already seems as sharp if not sharper than gh13.
can't tell too much else just yet other than dynamic range doesn't seem the greatest but still could be a slight improvement over gh13. either way if it's the same as gh13 at the least, but more stable AND has hdmi then it's a no brainer for gh13 owners to sell their gh13 and buy this if the price is relatively the same as new gh1.

not to mention we'll actually have a cool stills camera on par with t2i 7d able to take 16-18megapixel stills

I think Panny had confidence to take it to such a torture location. Of course they don't pan it, and the footage actually show some mud at 00:31-00:34. A bit more bandwidth and this really would become a wonderful.

Actually I see my GH13 freezing if I shot the same scene because of the stillness and details :)

100% HONEST TRUTH, this looks sharper than the Gh13 and sharper than any Canon Hdslr I have ever shot. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing, but I will say this....... This footage looks very very NICE & I might just hold off on a Canon 60D purchase IF this isn't price too expensive!

Noticed some bad aliason (?) on the girls hair in the shot of the bed, looks really bad. I guess this is the down fault of these dslr cameras.

It is as if Panasonic has been watching the GH13 test video's where everybody was posting deep dof foliage shots :-) Not one shallow dof shot in the scene, if it was the first 4/3 camera everybody would have said that this sensor size is unable to give the 35 mm look.

I do see some little aliasing but I don' t know if the image is not too sharp. It is as if Panasonic has wanted to compensate for the youtube video compression by sharpening the footage a bit too much.

I'm not impressed.. at least not with the youtube/vimeo encodes and it won't let you dl the raw mts file which is what we need to be looking at.

Since we don't have a camera yet we don't know what it does yet, other than what we have been told .
I agree footage looks sharp.... We should ask Bruce what glass he shot ...

Man I would not let my kids on those cliffs without me right there.....One thing that did seem odd was when he panned really slow it was really breaking up...A Vimeo Problem?

There is a weird blurry quality to fast motion in the sample. It shows up especially on the birds in the last scene. Don't know if part of that is the YT compression though. Would be nice to see if they have reduced the mud problem with fast camera movement.

I looked for some of the tell tale in camera compression signs from the GH1 in some of these shots and it was hard to spot them. Although it's really hard to tell with a web version, the image so far looks very promising.

Again... if he would just enable download of the mts clip.. we could REALLY see what the footage looks like from the camera and not his poor encoding to youtube. Or at least his master edit.. something wa sset wrong, motion is all juddery in spots... like my first gh1 vid before I understoof how to remove puldown correctly.

What I noticed and botter me a lot was this shadow just after the girls. Longer shutterspeed or flaw?
