thats because the test was to see different pulldown conversions from certain formats 30p, 60p and 24p. By the way, did you download the file? cause that solves the jumpiness (vimeo's fault)

by the way, the hmc170 could not handle the sky where as the gh 1 could!

Yeah ok but this is not about the 170, its about the 150. GH1 and 170 both have rolling shutter issues,,, the 150 has none of these problems. This thread is about the 150 and the GH1.

First off: It's HPX170 not HMC170

Second: The video shot by the GH1 looks lower contrast compared to the HPX170 video, which is why the cloud detail is getting lost in the sky. Adjust the gamma of the HPX170 to match the GH1, and I think you'll find the exposure range to be essentially identical.

GH1 and 170 both have rolling shutter issues, the 150 has none of these problems.

CORRECTION: The HPX170 and the HMC150 BOTH use CCD imagers, and neither has any sort of rolling shutter issues. The rolling shutter is a big issue for me, but I expect it to be taken care of by the time the 2nd or 3rd generation cameras hit the market.

I am extremely curious to see what Canon does next, as a real video body that uses their full frame SLR lenses and is priced in the prosumer range would be a huge game changer.

I agree.
I think all our video cameras are near to being blown out of the water by a cheap, small, SLR lens bearing, hi-def new creation that is probably right around the corner.

Just a prediction.

I used to have $100,000.00 of audio gear in the studio.
Now it's one PC and six grand of software. And I like the new better.

For some reason I thought the 170 was cmos but I got confused. Its the new 300 that has cmos. Deffo no jello or mud on the 170 or 150.

These threads are stupid anyway, why even compare or run side by side tests with a full bodied pro video camera vs a little still camera that has a go at shooting full frame HD video,,,,seriously, there's apples and oranges, some people eat apples and not oranges or vise versa and some eat both.

At first, I liked the concept of shooting with DSLR as we get shallow DOF of 35mm.
But when I saw the compression of GH1, looked like its the wrost thing out of it.

And its not even made by keeping video only in mind.
There are many things (e.g ColorControl, IRIS ring, etc.) which are very important for video, and has to be changed completely according to it.

So I never thought of GH1 as a Replacement for any video camera except for Consumer grade Handycams.
HDSLR is now just a begining. I would like to wait for it to get little more mature.

like i said the GH 1 needs a strong firmware upgrade
It's not guaranteed that a firmware upgrade can fix the "mud" issue of the codec. Maybe the chip in the GH1 which handles encoding of AVC is simply not strong enough to achieve better compression. I don't think that the engineering team wasn't aware of that issue, maybe those are simply hardware limits.
