GH2 Panasonic GH-2 Short film and Documentary

Here are two shorts that I put together last semester. I will be applying to grad schools this fall, so hopefully both of these will be good enough for some of my portfolio. The lenses I used were the standard 14-42mm, and a Canon FD 25mm 2.8. The lense I used most however was a Canon FD 50mm 1.4 that my dad bought in Japan in the early 80's. The FD adapter has worked great, and I really love what the GH-2 has been able to do so far. Any thoughts on the videos would be great. Thanks

Chris

Really liked your use of sequence of shallow DOF close-ups & unfocused details to create the claustrophobic atmosphere. Interesting enough to continue watching!
Video quality (on YouTube @720p) was was generally very good but showed some distracting pixelization in a few shots (starting with 5 years ago title overlay). Make sure that you can link to/submit your shorts without these artifacts if possible.

Good luck in grad school Chris!

nice work!

i would think about shot economy on your next project. driving around, hands on steering wheels, going in and out of doors, standing in elevators... none of it is truly essential. to me, these sorts of shots are more an exercise in match on action and shot sequences than a necessary part of the plot. if your story doesn't NEED a particular shot, you probably don't need to use it. just cut to the chase. this functions as a writing note just as much as a directing one.

nice work though. and good luck with school.

Nicely done on the short film. Things sure have come a long way since I shot my little films on my dad's VHS-C camera and edited between two VCRS hitting record and play simultaneously...

Hi I like both the doc and the short feature.

could you please tell me what lav and other audio setup you were using on the doc? I'm going to start shooting one myself in 2 days and dont have a lav.

Cheers

Audio Technica ATR 3350 omni-directional microphone. Plugged directly into my Gh2 with the 2.5mm adapter. 20$ on amazon, I was really happy with the sound I was able to get.

I have those shots. I mostly shot them as a back up for cutaways, but I had a time limitation for the class project, so those were the first to go. Thanks for the comments!

This might be a stupid question but...you lav'd up your actors with a wired mic? I'm just curious as it sounds difficult.

It wasnt difficult at all. I dont have a couple hundred dollars to spend on a wireless mic system. So I worked with what I could.
