Panasonic G7

To be officially announced midday Monday in London.

From the leaflet, it looks to have UHD (no DCI), their branded DFD auto-focus with own lenses and a very reasonable ISO performance (claims up to 25,600), focus peaking.

Probably not a true pro camera but a preview what can be found on a presumed GH5.

Looks like a great B cam to the GH4. Wish M43 would move beyond the 16mp sensor that's been around for the last few years. Panasonic is clearly staking its claim to the 4k realm, GH4, LX100, FZ100, G7 and presumably the upcoming GX8. Will be interesting to see when others respond.

I just wish we could move on from the 30min recoding time limit thing. Or at least offer a higher priced version for those who want to purchase these things as video use cameras. It is getting really old how these cameras are touted with so many video features but shush, it is only a still camera...

FWIW, dpreview spec list indicates the G7 has a type D (micro) HDMI port. If this is correct, (can't find a spec page on the pani site) then it's a downgrade from the GX7 and G6 which both have type C (mini) HDMI ports.

Micro Type D is correct (as per B&H).

There are a few promo videos on You Tube ... but they're HD only. A step up from GH4 is (allegedly) its low light performance. How well their DFD AF works in 4K remains to be seen. The recording bit rate is the same as GH4.

Priced at $797 with the 14-42mm F3.5-5.6; at $1295 with 14-140mm F3.5-5.6 and (!) 14mm F2.5; at $895 with 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 and (!) 45-150mm F4-5.6.

For a consumer tier product, it looks like a great buy.

And here's a quickie clip of moving objects. The rolling shutter looks very manageable.

No 'Body Only' version yet?
Man, I hate to pay for a lens I don't need.
Did a quick search and the usual purveyors are not offering sans lens at this time. (Except Panasonic themselves, and who wants to pay their prices!!!)
Anybody come across Body Only G7's in their web travels? Please post a link.
Thanks!

The 14-140 3.5/5.6 retails for $550, the AT mic for $250. Buy the package for $1,100 at Adorama, then eBay the lens for $400 and the mic for $150 or so and you'll have yourself a $550 G7 just like that.

Ah, I see you aren't a big fan of that 'plastic fantastic' Pani kit lens!

Just to be clear, I'm totally with you on this issue. If I had a desire to purchase this cam (and I do) it's on hold as long as Pani USA does this sort of marketing.

That is some shrewd business advice!!! I'm wondering if DLD isn't short for DonaLD Trump!
Actually, I was sorta thinking along those same lines, but I already have a huge backlog of camera equipment to sell as it is.
But thanks for 'running the numbers' for me, DLD!

For those who have one.

How easy is it to use and how flexible is the footage in post?

I know a lot goes into a shot beyond just the camera. But if you had limited resources like lighting, etc. can you still manage a shot that seems cinematic?

Thanks.
