Panasonic G2 low bitrate on AVCHD.

Hi Guys,

I've had the hack for a while on my G2 and i must say im impressed with the MJPEG side of things. How ever i still cant get AVCHD mode or as others call it SH mode to go above 10-12Mb when recording. While my MJPEG gets well above 40Mb and looks stunning the AVCHD just looks... terrible :(.

Any pointers or help with this? I've used mutiple hacks scattered around on the forum and still non of the AVCHD hacks work only MJPEG.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Cheers,
P.

No one? Seriously? ... i mean this is ment to be a forum full of the wise of the wise about these stuff.

AVCHD is an Inter-Frame variable bit rate codec; its size will depend largely on the amount of bright, crisp details in the scene. If you shoot a dim scene indoors with shallow focus it will be very low, but a daylit garden with lots of leaves fine detail will yield around 20Mb. (SH mode with a hack)
MJPEG will record a lot of detail over the whole frame because it is an Intra-Frame codec that records the video as a series of still images. It is much less efficient than AVCHD so generally records higher bit rates. MJPEG may be better in low-light, but AVCHD is definitely better in bright situations.
I have also noticed that video on the G2 can be quite aliased, IMO very inferior to what I've got from GH series cameras. Maybe it also looks better in MJPEG mode for you because the harsh aliasing is being smoothed by the softness of MJPEG?
