Panasonic firmware update for LCD Flip.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for chiming in. The reason I posted Tom's info was because he said to send email to him and he would send it to the right people. I guess you are "the right people." :)

Sounds like we have a definitive answer of the potential of a "flip mode" upgrade through firmware. While not the answer many of us had hoped to hear, I appreciate it nonetheless.

It seems the best solution is to physically turn the Marshall monitor upside down. The real bummer, at least for me, continues to be having to flip all the shots in post. That's why a flip mode at the record level would have been a dream come true.

Best,

D~C

I'm in total agreement with that.
Disappointment aside, glad we have a definitive answer.

Thanks for "the official word" Jan.

Next?

So I guess the next option is to ask Redrock to make an adapter that works the right way up:)

Rather than ask Redrock, just buy a Marshall and mount it upside down!

This is surely the best mehod. You get a monitor worthy of its hype, as the image it gives is pretty spectacular for the price, and you can use it the right way up as well, because it is so much better than the onboard HVX LCD screen.

Alternatively, if you are director, yo can see what your DOP/cameraman is viewing.

Can't go wrong with it.

there are 2 ideas floating around in this thread - one is not possible in firmware - the other I will bet is:

flipping the recorded image (and as a by product the lcd image) is not possible in firmware.

Flipping the image ONLY on the lcd I would bet is possible - there is a menu option to do this when the lcd is turned forward. So why cant this be triggered when it faces normal - perhaps the physical switch is the ONLY way to trigger the flip. If this is true I am wrong but seems a little strange

then again I am a little strange myself

The flip is not in a menu, mirror is. To put the flip into a menu so that you do it all the time is not a simple rewrite of the operating system.

Best,

Jan

I dont think this is the best method as you still have to render the image in post which is time comsuming and from what I understand, degrades the image somewhat.

flip in post should not degrade the image if done with the correct effects - its annoying but doable - the important thing is framing when shooting

jan - i get you - that makes sense - i guess the switch in the hinge is not tied into firmware
