Well, a DVX will set you back around 2900 after a mail in rebate.
Final Cut Studio will be 1299.99

So a big budget is what you may need first...

You can get a used 100a on this forum for 2K , Save some money buy a decent desktop with a nice harddrive Ram and a decent proccessor and buy Vegas 6.0 from b and h photo. There ya go yuour budget is at 2,700 $

Don't pay full price for FCP.

With the crossgrade program (extended until March, I believe) you can get the entire studio for 300 bones...

That's what I did. Worked great.

EDIT

I should clarify - I didn't even have any of the necessary packages to upgrade from, (My previous version of FCP didn't qualify) so I just looked on the list of eligible software and found that the cheapest was, get this, the upgrade version of Motion 2. Which is only $100. Bought it at the apple store, sent the disk in with the form and $200, and presto.

It might be kind of tricky to find one of these now, but I bet you could still do it.

I got my dvx100b from willoughbys for $2500 after rebate. And that includes magic bullet, so if you were gonna get that anyway, it's a pretty good deal.

Also, if you know anybody who attends a university of any sort, you can get the final cut suite for $599 if you have them buy it for you using their student discount. Although I guess jaustere's way works out cheaper.
