Panasonic Drops Price of Varicam LT to $9,995.00!

It is actually quite a good camera. Would maybe just change the form factor.

Add some i/o’s

Not much else. I am not a highspeed guy.

Did they ever update the codec bit rate options? I think when it was released it was either overkill or anemic bit rates, and nothing inbetween?

@puredrifting
I don’t even care about full frame. I like s35 and ASP-H. So, the C200 is still fine on that front.

Ouch, ok. Yeah, the camera is still a no go for me. I need something more moderate most of the time. Edit: didn’t they come out with raw light at least?

In the C200, it's always been called 'Cinema RAW Light'.

It's the newer and "lighter" version of Canon Cinema RAW (C500, etc), which no one really knows about.

Ah, ok, then it is still quite a heavy duty bit rate if i recall.

Please compare the performance to price value of these cameras to the VariCam LT and the EVA1. Seriously, be my guest.

LMAO. The moxy on you!

Without getting too worked up about it, I can't tell you enough how both of those cameras are insanely inferior for their asking prices.

Have you personally tested these cameras or done your own side by sides? Genuinely curious.

Nope. I only talk about several dozen cameras per year after reading about them on CNET and watching a few YouTubers.

I've actually never tested any camera myself.

Of course I do, man.

I always stay in my lane.

In 10 years, I might have said 2 things about lighting because I can barely setup a 3-point kit from Walmart.

Or audio because I've used like the same two microphones and the same two preamps my entire career.

But cameras are different. I know most of the world's cameras from the last 5-6 years and their technical specifications. Unfortunately, I won't have access to all of them, naturally, but I don't talk about things in depth I don't have experience with.

Even when I try to help people answer questions or troubleshoot by providing general knowledge concerning the circumstances, I always share that I don't know that particular system or its menu if I don't (like the F23's HFR options and the FS5's shutter angles in 240fps...both last week).

Oh, i think you misunderstood me. I was genuinely asking if you had directly tested the Varicam LT against other cameras.

Oh, no...I have never done a side-by-side test in my life (I'm not joking about that).

They are so useless and such a waste of time that I actually don't even watch them. I have tried (famous 'shootouts'), but I just can't.

My opinion is formed strictly from using it myself and also based on what the camera offers in 2019 (or the current year) for its price.

But I'm also fair about it and not biased. In other words, I would never write-off the LT just because it doesn't have AF. That would be really dumb. But there is nothing the camera offers that makes it worth $9,999 in this current universe. Just my opinion and no offense to anyone.

And it's not just Panasonic; the C300 Mark II is just as bad.

And the FS7 II is just as bad, but that one gets a pass because of what it has done for the industry.

Maybe the only time I can see someone comparing cameras is for something specific like to see how one handles difficult lighting (at the location), or the HFR options (because slow-motion is still questionable in cameras at certain resolutions/framerates), etc.

Something that is clearly better for you from one system at that moment right then and there for your purpose.

Not endless speculation about colors or dynamic range on charts in a studio or living room which completely change later.

One last thing...trust when I say I personally think the Germans and Americans offer systems that are not worth their prices either, but they are monopolies (in my opinion), so they can do whatever they want.

The Japanese can't do that with cinema cameras, at least not yet (even though they try).

But they do control photography.
