I wrote Panasonic Canada today trying to find out when will the HVX be released and how much It will cost. This is the reply I got back.

"Thank you for your e-mail. We regret to advise you that Panasonic Canada
Inc. is not marketing this model in Canada, and our sales group does not have
any current plans on introducing it into our marketplace. In view of this,
we are sorry that we cannot assist you in this regard.

Sincerely,
Customer Care Centre
Panasonic Canada Inc.

Is there anyone who can shed some light on this?

I think you just got an incompetent rep. They still have the HVX200 listed on their website. In fact, they've just updated the MSRP to $7000.

I'm at home now but I just tried it and it works fine.
If you have any questions just PM me and I'll gladly answer them for you during business hours tomorrow.

This is BS. I went to the NFB Montreal last week to meet with reps from Panasonic Canada and we discussed at length the distribution/sale of the HVX (which should be in shipping quantities in mid-January). I even held an "engineering sample" in my hands.
