Oh cool. Yeah I'll dig through 200+ pages of chatter for that, sure. Not...

If I remember Mitch correctly, there is no dedicated button for One Touch AF, but you can assign this function to one of the programmable camera buttons. Which seems like a great solution to me.

TheDingo kindly re-iterated Mitch's answer for you above but Mitch's original answer to your question was a mere 5 posts above yours. Ooooh, that was rough to find, wasn't it? Short attention span, lack of patience much? Most posters here make at least a common courtesy effort to check the past page or two of posts when posting something that they admit is a "dumb question". I don't think your question was dumb, it was pretty common, but since you have fewer than 200 posts and may not know common DVXUser etiquette, just suggesting that you don't waste Mitch's time asking questions of him that he just answered and at least scan a page or two back before posting "dumb" questions. Nothing personal, just how things work here. If the answer was buried back three months ago and 150 pages back, that's different, but yours was answered just a few posts above yours before you asked the exact same question others have asked, again.

My question was specifically about the one touch AF itself. Thanks for the detailed response though! Must have a lot of time on your hands

It's been months since the question of how EIS specifically works (qualitatively and quantitatively) came up - when can we expect details on this?

Additionally, early on in the original announce post, it was mentioned that it would not just be ordinary EIS and Panasonic was doing some cool things there. What makes the EIS implementation on the EVA-1 unique? How will it compare to EIS on the GH5, AF100, or competitors? Where is it officially or unofficially recommended, and where might it give results or problems that may be undesirable in professional use cases?

I'll try to get a clear answer for you here. I've been busy prepping our EVA1 events.

from the images i see online, i am curious about a few buttons... is the 'view' button for playback? and what about 'thumbnail'? are they different things? or is thumbnail a screen grab kinda thing?

next i see there are only 5 user programmable buttons? what buttons are there on the side grip? is there a dedicated magnify button on the grip itself or must you user map to enable it?

how many 'looks' or luts are there in the EVA1? is it only the 709 look and nothing else? or is there a P3/rec2020 look built into it?

Some of these buttons are simply User Buttons that are named for the controls that come as the camera preset. in the case of VIEW, tappling the button toggles on/off the Focus Squares, but you can choose from a long list of functions (28 to be exact). Not all buttons control the same functions, so you can imagine there's a lot in there. Many of the User Button controls are shortcuts to functions otherwise available in the menu, others are only accessible by setting a User Button to perform the function.

THUMBNAIL is for playback of recorded clips. A bunch of small windows appear on the screen and you can scroll through them to select the clip you wish to playback.

There are actually a total of nine user buttons on the EVA1. My favorite is the one hidden away on the handgrip where the tip of your index finger can reach it. There is not a dedicated expand button on the handgrip. Insteead there are several user Buttons along with Menu & Record buttons along with a wheel that can control the iris or navigate menus.

There is a Rec709 LUT for the V-Log recording mode, and then there are five programmable Scene Files. The controls for these scene files are quite extensive, and you can truly paint the camera with them. These files can be saved on the camera and on an SD card for later use or to share between cameras, etc.

Just a guess: When a m4/3 lens is mounted, there will be similar benefits from synchronized lens and sensor IS. With the m4/3 crop, there will be plenty of free sensor space for digital IS while resolution stays above 4k.

The EVA1 is EF-mount, not MFT. Those lenses cannot be mounted on the camera.

Hey Mitch, I know you kept saying there's no anamorphic mode or desqueeze because there's no anamorphic EF Lenses but GH5 V2 is getting those features :D http://www.eoshd.com/2017/08/panasonic-gh5-review-and-exclusive-first-look-at-version-2-0-firmware/ so why can't EVA have any of those?

There are many things that the EVA1 can do that the GH5 cannot. There is only so much programming and power space available within the camera so certain functions are included or not. Lots of juggling and prioritizing here. BTW, the GH5 comes from our consumer division while the EVA1 is from our professional line. We do a lot of comingling and integration so that the products complement one another and retain a consistent look and feel, but in the end they make their decisions and we make ours. Both great cameras, just different.

Not sure I am following... Are you talking about on the GX85? Because an m4/3 lens can't be mounted on the EVA-1 at all, and even if it could, the lens would likely only illuminate an m43-sized area, which would be 4k in res but wouldn't provide any extra sensor viewing area for EIS to work with.

Well Mitch, Im sure Im not the only one that would like to have some anamorphic features on my EVA1 on the next firmware update. GH5 having an open gate option for anamorphic? Wow!

But here's something to add on the wishlist for future EVA1 firmware :) I can't imagine EVA1's processor being inferior to the GH5.

I don't know. It may possibly be. I have seen actual footage and the colors are similar. The camera produces a very cinematic image not unlike the varicam.
