AS detailed and obsessive as it is they missed one small design part- a neutral mount for different lenses ;-)

And I'm sure it was on purpose. Which means they didn't miss anything at all. They went with the exact mount they wanted the camera to have. ;-)

Haha that's what they told me about varicam at Nab 2015 (or was it 2014)when I asked them about Canon mount. They were too good for Canon EF- only "pro" PL and B4.
A year later.... surprise, surprise- Canon EF was in the line up. Just like the neutral mount will show up in the EVA. Better sooner than later..... I think the Panasonic guys could use some schooling from the Sony US sales team- those guys were sharp from the beginning....
Japan Inc with their strategizing- you'd think they'd learn from RED disrupting with a "4K" cheap camera back in 2006 when they were still milking the 1080p...nope - not a chance.... free market still is a foreign concept to them....:violin:
Companies can't hold back features in todays market- it's just too transparent with the internet leaks and such.
Planned obsolescence on the other hand.....

OK I'll bite:
One question:
How are they planning to properly control focus?
AF will not work for all practical purposes since Panasonic does not offer dual pixel and manual focusing of AF lenses- lets just say -less than ideal hahaha -to put it VERY gently.
Like I said- not really a thought thru properly engineered and executed feature set. Now what- back to strap on gears?
Also a non locking EF mount slop will cause image flicker like crazy while focusing- even when you manage to put that EF mount on any cine lens. These guys still have a lot to learn....
It's not like we haven't seen that before...
These are major every day use issues that have been around for a while and have been addressed- like with the Sony Fs7/2 and canon c300/2

hmmm So what are you guys cooking up? Are you hinting at something?
Always,
Since the Varicam 35 had come out:
We've been ready and asking Panasonic (for some half decent external camera/lens control communication protocol), and trying to explain what it did for Sony in terms of sales. crickets ....
If RED can do it, WE, a small company can do it... why Panasonic can't? I think the logical answer is that they don't get it- the concept is too abstract for them, and Japan Inc. generally has trouble with abstract....

A few question for Mitch about EVA, which I have not found yet and should be known and certain.
1. What is case material of EVA: magnesium, aluminum, composite, etc?
2 Will be possible output full 5,7K RAW in 50/60P in future upgrade?
3. Will be active or passive cooling system of camera?

I'd say active or passive matters if you're worried about sound. Doubtful it's passive cooling, there is so much going on in such a small space with today's cameras. Now the question becomes, will it be audible "on camera". Using "small/smaller" cameras that I own for a frame of reference, I have never heard my C300's fan, but my F55 on full tilt is insanely loud, to the point I look over at my audio guy and see if he's giving me the evil eye.

Does this really matter ? If it's 2.5 lbs, should I care if it's aluminum or magnesium ?

Not really. If you were making automotive parts, there is quite a bit of study to see where magnesium castings can replace aluminum. But for a camera, it seems to be a toss-up. There are many details that would determine aluminum vs magnesium selection. Each material has their pluses and minuses. Metals have the advantage of becoming part of the heat dissipation system. There is no clear advantage aluminum vs magnesium. Magnesium is softer, more expensive, but can be cheaper to manufacture, it is more unstable, but can be faster to produce, but have a poorer finish in die casting, but it is lighter.

There is a magnesium alloy frame, but I think it might be skinned in another material. Not sure.

Specs not yet shared for 5.7K RAW output.

There is both active and passive cooling in the camera, and it is effectively silent.

Yesterday I had a look at a C200 (pre-production?) in a hot and humid office (broken air conditioning with an already unbearable outside temp).
C200 fan was working hard. Loudness and heat from vent reminded me pretty closely that on my Raven (I can do interviews today If I need to. With Scarlet MX I couldn't, with warm ambient..). I saw a smidge of embarrassment on the Canon people the very first moment we had a pause in our talk. Haha. Funny, as personally I thought this was sign of a, hopefully, pretty decent computing capability!
I really hope you get the essence good on the EVA1. Well, I hope Mr.Taka skills prevails over the marketing Matsushita offices and politics
Having nothing to hold to until a month or 2, I have been tentatively happy listening to (Panasonic) Luc Bara, at the very end (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4ciLECkExs at 22.39) of an interview with E.Pampuri after Cinegear. He said something like: "Dynamic range will not be the Varicam, but considerably higher than that of the GH5". I like that "considerably"
