Panasonic announces world’s first interchangeable 3d lens for lumix g

I think it's only for 720p mode and it shoots a 30p 3D image, so the left pancake lens fires then the right... or they booth shoot at the same time into a buffer which lays down the left eye image first then the 2nd eye image on the next frame... so your 60 p turn into 30p 720 3D.

I think.... I could be totally off....

Why?? It has two lenses so whole picture is taken at the same time. Frame rate/resolution doesn't mean anything. You can use similar m43 system by Loreo. Of course, Panasonic might limit it to some formats, but I cannot see why.

I agree with you but then I think about another higher end 3D camera they currently have (that costs a whole lot more). Protection maybe?

Yes but there is only ONE cmos chip and unless they rewrite the software, they would have to split the resolution wouldn't they?

My guess would be that an add-on lens like that would be using the side-by-side format. Two 960x1080 images recorded side-by-side on each 1080p frame. That's how DirecTV's 3D sports channel works.

Is this only in a new camera.... how would the supposed GH1 3D lens work.. how would the gh1 know what to do with it?

So it is then cutting the horizontal detail resolution in half... and some post special software doubles the
960 back to 1920 x 1080? I imagine that will look a bit mushy....

That's how 3D broadcasting works. There are several methods of 3D, including "checkerboard" and "side by side"; SxS = left eye = left 960x1080, right eye = right 960x1080.

The GH1 wouldn't have to know anything about it, would it?

Besides, is this lens even designed for motion? Or is it for stills only?

The first 3DTv certainly will be Panasonic Viera TV...
But the question is what about the hack with this new lens? because panasonic will out a new firmware to work with 3D lens... Do you think that they will Lock the new Firmware or let it out without lock... to let GH13 hack live in the community for selling more G system?
