Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

I'm happy to say i finally made up my mind and thanks for RUSH i got a great deal on a Panasonic Anamorphic lens plus a Chroziel 411-53pk matte box

I had the formatt matte box and i was very happy with it, but i really wanted to go with the real 16x9 instead of the squeezed mode that i had been using.

i'll post more about how it works out when the fedex box arrives!

one note, RUSH was super helpful, you need to have a modification done to the sunshade on the panasonic lens so it will fit properly in the matte box and he had the modified lens in stock so i saved me having to get the lens and then ship it right back to 16x9/chroziel!

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

Hey, I've had a question about this set up, because I've never seen it in person. Can you use filters when you have the anamorphic on?

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

When you have the anamorphic you then will be needing the chroziel matte box in order to use filters (if I am not mistaken you can use 2 fixed and 1 rotating filters). I am not sure if there are other matte box brands out there that work with the panamorphic lens.

Cheers!

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

Please excuse my ignorance but what is Rush?, a website?

I am interested in this setup.

Thanks

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

Rush is a sales rep for EVS, he hooks up the DVXuser discount.

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

as far as i know, the chroziel is the only matte box that works with the Panasonic anamorphic.

plus i like that it comes with what you need to switch to using it without the anamorphic and use it for 4:3 too

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chrosziel Matte Box

I have this setup as well. Check out EVS at http://www.evsonline.com then call Rush for excellent service. Everyone at EVS is great to work with, plus they visit this site regularly so are in touch with the DVX community.

matthewd5, I have the same setup with sidewings. Check it out:

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

Cinetactics now has a Matteblox that will work with it as well, for a low-cost solution. I don't know how it performs with filters though.

The Chrosziel 411-53PK is the only conventional mattebox that accomodates the anamorphic adapter, unless you're looking at something like an Arri 6x6.

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

Oz,
I notice you have the sidewing with the sliding groves on the inside. I would install with those on the outside. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And, which tripod and head do you use and how do like them?

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

i want to get the sidewings but damn, they are awfully expensive!

seems silly how much they charge for a relatively simple piece...

thanks for the picture, my box from evs won't be here till thursday.

post more pictures from the side

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chrosziel Matte Box

Hey Student, you're right. I have my camera and mattebox stored in a Pelican case, and detach the sidewings regularly. Didn't notice for the picture. Here's my case:

The tripod I have is a Miller DS-10. Very solid tripod, smooth, and of excellent build. Check out the pictures:

matthewd5, I took these pictures a while back and haven't taken any recently. I'll see if I can post some pictures from the side soon.

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

I'm drooling over that set up big time. :P

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

Hey how much did they charge you for the whole package? how much did the modification to the anamorphic lens cost?
I'm looking at the anamorphic to use for its 16:9 but also because it increases your field of view by 33% saving you on a wide lens!

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

i think the matte box package was around $1650

the dvx-mod is what they call the anamorphic mod and it was $150

the nice thing was that they had the mod'd anamorphic lenses in stock, otherwise i would have had to get it then send it right back out and wait for it to get done.

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

That must be the largest Pelican case on earth!

You could probably stick the french flag and sidewings in there vertically, which would free up a lot of space for other goodies (batteries, charger, filters, etc).

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

lol, the case is a Pelican 1650. I placed the french flag and wings flat on the foam like that just for show and the photo. Actually, the case is so large that I was able to place other items in the second layer of foam (for example, the 15mm rods for the mattebox, batteries, etc). They are under the camera and mattebox. Haven't decided yet how to arrange other items like my primary shotgun mic and filters.

I was going to get a smaller Pelican but Kai's pictures of his 1650 convinced me. Those photos are somewhere on this forum...

matthew, let us know when your setup arrives and what you think.

<snipped for brevity>

I got this in an e-mail today (had asked to be notified when they became available for the DVX anamorphic): Matteblox Anamorphic . . . http://cinetactics.com

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

Re: Panasonic Anamorphic + Chroziel Matte Box

ok i came home from a day trip to boston and on my front porch was the box from evsonline!

first thing, my french flag folds in half, its kind of slick, doesn't make any difference functionally as far as i can tell, it just packs really well.

the picture i saw posted in this thread definitely looked like a single piece. i'll be ordering the side wings in a week or two, it just takes a little while to swallow paying $550 for two wings and hinges! @^&*$($

For anyone who has one of the chroziels...did yours come with ANY directions??

i didn't have one word of documentation! i mean it was pretty straightforward, but i've never paid this much for something and gotten zilch for docs.

the one problem i'm having is that the focus ring for whatever reason is binding.

it seems that the support bars aren't going up as high as the matte box seems to want them to.

if i loosen everything up the focus ring is DEFINITELY way easier to spin.

and no, i didn't buy their focus ring, it looks slick and everything but again, i guess i was just too cheap, i forget how much they wanted but it was a lot for a plastic ring.
